BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -
BGSU HEAD COACH CURT MILLER:
"Going into the game, we found out -- about an hour before the game -- that we were going to be playing without Pam Brown. Our game plan an hour before the game was to pound (the ball) into Pam Brown, and go after them inside. After very little prep time after returning from Colorado, our game plan to pound it inside had to be altered minutes before the game. I think the kids did a good job understanding that, and people stepped up and played a more active role."
"The key going into the game, when a team leads the nation in scoring (EKU led the country in 2000-01), is they get multiple possessions. And, the way Eastern Kentucky gets multiple possessions and can lead the nation in scoring is by pressing for 40 minutes. I know it doesn't look like it, but all we did was work for 36 hours on breaking their pressure. We had three different press-breaks that we could go to, not necessarily to attack it, but to break it and be able to get down (the floor) on offense. And, clearly, 26 turnovers didn't get it done. We obviously did not break the press and handle the pressure."
"After playing an ugly first half and still having the chance to be in the game, the first four minutes of the second half were critical. And, that's when we came out and handled the press the worst."
(On the injuries to Pam Brown and Francine Miller): "Pam Brown will have an MRI done on Thursday, but potentially has meniscus damage in her knee. Francine's status is day-to-day. She once was diagnosed with a subluxed kneecap, but the orthopedist believes that she has just a bruised knee."
"We don't want to make excuses, but when you play against a good team without two starters and key contributors, you have a tough road ahead of you."
"We missed a ton of easy shots in the first half. We wanted to get some dribble penatration and we wanted to attack inside, even without Pam, but we weren't finishing in the first half. Without Francine on the floor, it is a constant struggle to know where points are coming from. People have to step up their offensive game."
"I thought Megan Jerome played a solid 22 minutes, and I thought Tene (Lewis) played more relaxed in a starting role today."
EKU HEAD COACH LARRY JOE INMAN:
"BGSU played great defense on us tonight. We made too many turnovers, but our defense in the second half helped us create some opportunities."
"I felt like we were a lot more consistent on offense in the second half. We were more patient, and our defense really stepped up as well. We shot 70 percent in the second half, and I felt like we put it all together and were able to pull away."
