CORAL GABLES, Fla. (www.bgsufalcons.com) -
BGSU HEAD COACH CURT MILLER:
"We talked about the fact that this team, with the exception of (the graduated) Angie Farmer, is still the team that led the nation in three-point field goals just a few years ago. We have capable shooters, and we believe in our shooters. We knew that Lehigh, sitting there (watching BG's game) in person last night, would play their zone, and we would have three-point opportunities. But, we had to step up and make our three-pointers."
"It gave us a lot of confidence, after making our first two three-pointers, that we could make some throughout the game, and it excited the bench, too. We also got the monkey off our back early in the game, especially knowing that they were going to play a lot of zone against us."
"This makes two games in a row that we've executed our game plans, and done what we want to do. The first night, we came up a little short and missed some shots, while the second night, we made enough shots to win the game. But, in both games, I'm pleased that we came in focused and tried to execute our game plan. And, we were successful each night, for the most part."
"We played against one of the premier centers in the Patriot League and on the east coast (Anne Tierney). I guarantee, at the end of the season, that there won't be too many games where she is held to single digits [Tierney had six points vs. BG, on 2-of-11 shooting]. To shut down a premier center like we did, with basically a half-day of preparation, is very exciting."
"We refused to guard some of their players that aren't very good shooters, and we tried desperately to take away their three top players, especially Tierney. And, we did an excellent job against Anne Tierney."
(On junior Kim Griech): "We keep telling Kim that we're going to keep running plays for her, and she's gonna have openings. She is our three-point threat, and our number-one option behind the arc. She stepped up and made four big 'threes' tonight, and a couple of her other shots were in and out. I give her a lot of credit to come right back after last night and have a big game. Kim Griech is an integral part of the success of the team this year, and that's the kind of performance we're looking for every night from her."
"We're excited about the win, it gives us a little bit of momentum as we go into conference play. It gets the monkey off our back, that we could still win without Francine (Miller) and Pam (Brown). And, now we're close to getting those two back. We can enjoy the rest of our trip in Florida, and go back and prepare for four home games in our first five conference contests."
