FALCONS END SEASON WITH 7-10-2 MARK: The Bowling Green State University women's soccer team has seen the 2001 season come to an end. The Falcons finished the school's fifth season of varsity women's soccer with a 7-10-2 overall record, and BGSU posted a Mid-American Conference mark of 2-9-1.
HEAD COACH ANDY RICHARDS: Andy Richards has completed his second season as a head coach, and has an overall record of 17-20-3. Richards, who came to BGSU after five years as an assistant coach at Oregon State University, was hired in April of 2000.
Ashlee Orr has completed her second season with the Falcon program as well. Orr was named the BGSU assistant coach in late August of 2000.
COPPES NAMED MAC NEWCOMER OF YEAR: BGSU freshman Kristy Coppes was named the 2001 MAC Newcomer of the Year, becoming the first Falcon women's soccer player in the five-year history of the program to win a league specialty award ... the award was announced at the MAC Tournament banquet in Athens, Ohio, on Nov. 8 ... Coppes, a native of Findlay, Ohio, had 12 goals in her initial collegiate season, tying the school single-season record ... she had 26 points, the second-highest total in BG annals, and just three points shy of that seasonal record ... after just one season in the Brown and Orange, she already ranks fourth on the BGSU career goals list, and seventh on the career points list.
LAST TIME OUT: The Falcons dropped a 3-0 decision at Ball State on Nov. 1, in the team's final contest of the season ... junior goalkeeper Erika Flanders made three saves in the match to extend the single-season record she had set the previous week.
THANKS, SENIORS: The Falcons have seen the careers of eight seniors come to an end ... Annmarie Aparo, Libby Christensen, Meredith Davis, Adrienne Graessle, Leslie Hepfinger, Michelle Hoyng, Mandy Smith and Beth Wechsler all saw action in the Ball State match, marking the end of their respective collegiate playing tenures.
COPPES TIES SCHOOL RECORD FOR GOALS: Freshman Kristy Coppes, who battled an injury for the last few weeks of the season, still managed to tie the BGSU single-season record for goals, with 12 ... Coppes, who scored her 12th and final goal of the season vs. Marshall, tied Tracy Gleixner for that record ... Gleixner had 12 goals in her freshman year of 1998 ... this year, Coppes had a total of 26 points, the second-highest seasonal total in BG annals ... Gleixner had 29 points in that 1998 campaign.
FLANDERS SETS SAVES RECORD: For the third consecutive year, junior goalkeeper Erika Flanders set the school record for saves in a season ... Flanders made three saves in the season finale at Ball State, bringing her seasonal total to 127 saves ... Flanders had 91 saves as a freshman, and 118 stops as a sophomore in 2000 ... prior to her arrival on campus, the school's single-season record for saves was 76.
BGSU SCORING LISTS - UPDATES: Several current members of the Falcon squad are ranked on the school's career scoring lists ... junior Jill Conover holds the BGSU career scoring lead ... her seven points in the Oct. 3 win over Youngstown State (tying the school's single-match record) gave her 55 points for her career ... junior Tracy Gleixner had two goals in that same match to move past Michelle Lisy (1997-2000) and assume the top spot with 20 career goals ... Gleixner tied Lisy for second place on the points list, with 48 ... Conover's three assists vs. YSU (again, tying the single-match record) give her 23 for her career, equalling Janice Mentrup's (1997-2000) school-record total ... all three lists, updated through the end of the 2001 season, follow:

BGSU's 3-0-2 start to the 2001 season marked the first time in program history that the Falcons had been unbeaten to start the season ... in fact, that five-match unbeaten streak tied the school record, originally set in 1997-98 (last two matches of 1997, first three of 1998) ... the Falcons' win at Northern Illinois marked the first time in school history that BGSU had rallied from a two-goal deficit to post a victory ... that victory also extended the Falcons' road unbeaten streak to a school-record five matches (3-0-2) ... BG's 10-1 win over Youngstown State saw the Brown and Orange set or tie numerous school records ... BGSU set a new mark for goals in a match and margin of victory (nine) ... BG's five goals in each half tied the school mark ... the team also set marks for fastest four goals (9:48), fastest five goals (13:05), fastest seven goals (45:52) and, of course, fastest 10 goals (71:13) ... BGSU's 19 shots on goal in the match tied that school record ... Kristy Coppes had three goals vs. YSU to tie that mark, while Jill Conover matched Coppes' total of seven points in the match (tying that record) ...
