BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -
BGSU HEAD COACH CURT MILLER:
"There were a lot of positives in the first half. I felt that for the first time, even in our two wins, that we executed what we were trying to execute, even though we didn't always finish plays and make shots. We were very happy at halftime with the way we executed offenses.
"We felt like, if we could come out and play a good first four minutes, and ever get (the UWM lead) under 10, that the game could potentially go the distance. But, we also said that we have enough respect for Milwaukee, and feel like their starting five could win the MAC, and that they could easily turn it into a 30-point game."
"When we found out (that UWM would start five freshmen), we tried to use that as motivation. But, to their credit (the freshmen) outplayed us to start both halves. ... What they were trying to accomplish, in sending a message to their very talented starting five, obviously worked."
"The second half was a different story. I didn't feel like we played with as much confidence. Their pressure bothered us, and the looks that we were trying to accomplish offensively didn't come as easy or as often. They did a nice job of shutting us down in the second half."
"Our tail is between our legs right now."
(On Stefanie Wenzel): "We're really happy with Stefanie's performance. Playing against a sibling is never easy. It easy to tell, as a fan or as a coach, that when Stefanie Wenzel is on the court, she gives 100 percent and plays with a lot of heart. Her scrappy play pays off. She led us in both scoring and rebounding, mainly because she played so hard. She continues to be a positive spark for us."
UWM HEAD COACH SANDY BOTHAM:
(On starting the freshmen): "We ran into a roadblock at Valparaiso in our last game. I thought we underachieved, and I was really disappointed. And, it was our upperclassmen who failed to get the job done."
"You can't take anything for granted. You can't just walk into gyms and think you can beat teams. And, it gave our young kids a shot. We've got some talent in that freshman group, and it's just gonna make us that much stronger."
"Our freshmen came out and played with Bowling Green's starters in both halves. I thought it was very effective. We're teaching our kids life lessons, and if it costs you a game, then it costs you a game. This was a good win, we went on the road and were a mentally stronger team."
"(Bowling Green) fought back. They played our upperclassmen pretty even for that first stretch. They really battled, and never gave up. If I was the coach on that bench, I would have been a little frustrated (with the first few minutes of the game), too."
