Women's Basketball Falls To Miami, 88-61

OXFORD, Ohio - Kim Lancaster had 19 points as Miami University posted an 88-61 victory over the Bowling Green State University women's basketball team Monday (Feb. 12). The Mid-American Conference game was held at MU's Millett Hall.
For the Falcons, redshirt freshman Pam Brown had a team-high 16 points, while junior Francine Miller had 11.
The RedHawks, now 12-9 overall and 6-5 in MAC play, led by five points at the half, 39-34, but steadily increased the lead in the second stanza. The Falcons (9-14, 5-7 MAC) traded baskets with the hosts for the first three minutes, but then MU went on a 13-2 run to extend the margin to 56-42 at the 14:22 mark. The margin was still 12 points, 58-46, when the RedHawks scored 10 unanswered points to put the game away.
The Falcons held a 41-35 rebounding advantage in the contest, with junior Dana Western recording a team-high seven and Miller and freshman Kelly Kapferer grabbing six apiece. Western nearly hit double digits in scoring, with nine points. Miller had a team-high five assists.
For the RedHawks, four players joined Lancaster in double digits, as Heather Cusick had 18, including four three-point field goals, and Jenny Martin had 14 off the bench. Jana Butler and Kelli Stamper had 10 apiece.
The RedHawks shot .517 in the second half en route to .467 for the game. BGSU shot .429 in the first half, but only .323 in the second stanza, on the way to a 22-of-59 (.373) performance.
The Falcons return to action with a Saturday (Feb. 17) home game against Marshall University. Tip time is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at venerable Anderson Arena.
