The Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) held their annual awards ceremony Thursday, March 15, at the Fox Theatre in Detroit, Michigan, and three members of the Bowling Green hockey team were among the honorees.
Senior Curtis Valentine was one of eight players in the league to be voted onto the CCHA All-Academic Team. Valentine, a production and operations management major, has maintained a 3.64 GPA while compiling 55 career points as a winger for the Falcons.
The Terry Flanagan Memorial Award is given annually to the player best exemplifying perseverence over personal adversity. The award was named for former Bowling Green assistant coach Flanagan, who passed away in December 1991 after a battle against cancer. Senior defenseman Doug Schueller became the first Falcon to win the award in its nine year existence. Schueller has made a comeback from a potentially career-ending knee injury not once, but twice.
Falcon netminder Tyler Masters was one of ten players throughout the league awarded the Perani Cup, given to players who have consistently played well throughout the season and been awarded one of the three stars at the end of each game.
The Falcons continue their postseason run for the CCHA Championship, taking on Michigan State in a semifinal matchup Friday night at Joe Louis Arena. Game time is 5:08.
