ROCK HILL, S.C. - The Bowling Green State University softball team dropped a 5-1 decision to Virginia Tech Saturday (March 17). The game was the Falcons' third at the Winthrop Invitational in Rock Hill.
Virginia Tech moved to 16-11 on the season, while the Brown and Orange saw its record fall to 7-6 in 2001.
Sophomore Crystal Wilson provided the only offensive spark for the Falcons, hitting a solo homer in the third inning. For Wilson, the round-tripper was the first of her collegiate career.
The Hokies, however, tied the game on a Tiffany Hurt homer, her seventh of the year, in the fifth. Virginia Tech then scored four runs in the seventh to secure the win. Hurt's single in that frame scored Maura Green with what proved to be the winning run.
Clarisa Crowell got the win for the Hokies, while junior Jessie Milosek took the loss for the Falcons.
The Falcons return to action with elimination-round play Sunday (March 18) at the Winthrop Invitational. BGSU's first opponent and game time are to be determined.
