CLEVELAND, Ohio - Bowling Green State University senior Lynsey Ebel has been named a Mid-American Conference Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday (May 7). Ebel earns the honor for the second time in her Falcon career.
Ebel, a native of Penfield, Ohio, hit a team-leading .471 last week, going 8-for-17 at the plate as the Falcons went 5-1 to close the regular season. Ebel had a slugging percentage of .824 and a .526 on-base percentage in the six games.
In MAC play, Ebel hit .500 (5-of-10) with a slugging percentage of 1.000. BGSU went 3-1 in conference games and clinched the MAC's East Division title.
On the week, Ebel scored four runs and drove in eight. She had three doubles, and homered in BGSU's 7-2 win over visiting Kent State Friday (May 4), a win that clinched the divisional crown.
The homer was Ebel's sixth of the year, tying the school record. It was the 14th homer of her BGSU career, giving her the school's career record. (Classmate Jen Domschot, who hit six homers last season to set the BG record, has 13 career homers.)
Ebel has hit .400 over the last three weeks, going 24-for-60 at the plate. She has raised her seasonal batting average from .239 to .304 during that time.
Ebel has driven in 15 runs over the last eight games, and has a school-record 39 RBI on the year (junior Renee Rosemeier also has 39 RBI this season). Ebel and Rosemeier tied for the league lead with 25 RBI in MAC games this spring.
Bowling Green, 34-17 overall, finished 19-5 in MAC action. The Falcons will open MAC Tournament play Thursday afternoon (May 10), playing the winner of that morning's Ball State-Northern Illinois game. The six-team, double-elimination tournament will run from Thursday through Saturday (May 10-12) in Mount Pleasant, Mich.
