This is the fifth in a series of position previews for the 2001 BGSU football team.
Quoting Coach Meyer
"It is our goal to have a 1,200-yard rusher in our offensive system. Godfrey Lewis had a great spring and we were pleased with his performance in the spring game. Joe Alls is another guy who could really help us. Todd DiBacco opened some eyes during the spring as well. John Gibson needs to be healthy to be effective for us."
The Players
A knee injury last week has sidelined junior Godfrey Lewis. Lewis had earned the top spot on the depth chart after spring ball and was coming off a season in which he suffered a stress fracture in the second game of last season and was granted a medical redshirt. Lewis, with two years of eligibility remaining, has rushed for 1,284 yards in his career to date, and has averaged four yards per carry.
Junior Joe Alls will look to return to the form which saw him rush for 592 yards and average five yards per carry as a freshman in 1999. He is an explosive runner in the open field and a threat as a kick returner.
Senior John Gibson is back after leading the team in rushing in 2000. He gained 514 yards and rushed for four TDs as a junior.
Redshirt freshman Todd DiBacco rushed for more than 4,000 yards as a prep and will challenge for playing time.
True freshman B.J. Lane also could see playing time after rushing for 1,614 yards for Friendly High School in Ft. Washington, Maryland.
Spring Game Highlights
Lewis rushed for 80 yards on 10 carries, including a 53-yard TD ... Alls carried the ball four times for 12 yards.
