Falcons On a Roll, Defeat Winthrop in 3 Games

East Lansing, MI - The Falcons continued their winning streak Friday night, defeating Winthrop University in three games (30-27, 30-19, 30-22) at their second match of the Coca-Cola Spartan Invitational, hosted by Michigan State.
Bowling Green was again led by the consistency of their veteran players. Senior Caty Rommeck had 13 kills, 11 digs, and three service aces. Natalie Becker, also a senior, had 44 assists and two service aces of her own. Classmate Amber Vorst had eight kills and a team-high 11 digs in the match. Junior Kristin Gamby had 11 kills and three digs in the three games.
Sophomore Susie Norris, leading the team with a .529 hitting percentage, had nine kills in 17 attempts, posting no errors. She also registered eight digs and one block. Classmate Laura Twyman had five kills, two assists and three blocks to help the Falcons in their win over the Eagles.
Also seeing action for Bowling Green were seniors Karen Amstutz and Shyann Robinson, sophomores Nadia Bedricky and Sara Sikorski, and freshman Melissa Mohr.
The Falcons posted 50 kills with 13 errors in 111 attempts, hitting .333 as a team, while Winthrop had 38 kills with 28 errors in 114 attempts, hitting only .088 as a team. The Falcons has a team total 8.5 blocks to the Eagles' one.
Bowling Green will play its final match of the Coca-Cola Spartan Invitational tomorrow (Sept.8) at 8:00 p.m., taking on host Michigan State.
