FALCONS EARN TOP SPOT IN MID-MAJOR WEEKLY POLL
Butler's, 90-87 double-overtime, loss to Wright State opened the door for a new No. 1 and Bowling Green (11-1) walked through the threshold. The Falcons, winners of ten straight, became the first Mid-American Conference team to claim the spot in the CollegeInsider.Com Mid-Major Top 25 since Marshall was ranked No. 1 in December 2000.
"That's a great honor," says Bowling Green coach Dan Dakich, "but I just want to win the next game. Our motto has been, 'just win one more.' It's great to see the Falcons ranked No. 1, but I am worried about Northern Illinois (next opponent)."
Bowling Green grabbed 16 of the 30 first-place votes to edge out Gonzaga (12-2) for the top spot.
Butler (13-1) dropped two spots to No. 3, followed by Southern Illinois (12-2) and Western Kentucky (12-3).
FALCONS ARE 34th (RPI), 40th (ESPN/USA Today), 40th (AP)
The Falcons are the 34th-highest rated team in the most recent NCAA I ratings percentage index (RPI), the highest ranking for any MAC program. For the sixth time this season, BGSU received votes in the ESPN Coaches Poll. The nine votes for the Falcons ranks them 40th this week. BGSU also received seven votes in the AP poll for the second straight week, and move to 40th from 42nd.
