BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Bowling Green State University volleyball head coach Denise Van De Walle has announced the signing of one student-athlete to a National Letter of Intent. Corrie Mills will join the Falcons for the 2003-04 academic year.
"I'm really excited to have Corrie join our volleyball program," said Van De Walle. "She's a really good athlete, student, and most importantly, a terrific person. From the moment we did our visit, I thought she was a great fit for our program. I look forward to seeing her in a Falcon uniform next year."
Mills, a native of Elgin, Ill., currently attends Larkin High School. This fall, the 6-0 middle has helped the Royals to a 24-10 record. She helped coach Mary O'Brien's team to a 32-5 record last season en route to earning Upstate Eight Conference First-Team honors for the second consecutive year. She also was named to the all-area team as well as the academic all-conference squad last season.
A member of the National Honor Society, Mills also has earned a pair of softball letters to date at Larkin.
Mills has played club ball for the N.I. Jrs. First Kill Volleyball Club. A cousin, Jerilyn Hattendorf, played four years of volleyball at the University of Florida.
Mills plans to major in education at BGSU.
"Corrie's academic background is a wonderful fit for us," said Van De Walle. "We've had tremendous success recruiting players in the 4.0 (grade point average) range. She will help us keep our 3.4 team GPA."
The Falcons are 8-18 overall and 3-11 in Mid-American Conference play, heading into Friday's (Nov. 15) home match vs. Buffalo. That contest will begin at 6:00 p.m. at Anderson Arena. BGSU has just one senior, Kristin Gamby, on the 2002 squad.
