BGSU Returns to Action
After a week off of competition, Bowling Green returns to CCHA action with a two-game series at Notre Dame this weekend, Dec. 7-8. Saturday's face-off is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at the Joyce Center while Sunday's face-off is slated for 5:05 p.m. It is the only Sunday contest for the Falcons this year.
Falcons (1-7-1 CCHA) vs. Notre Dame (4-6-0 CCHA)
BGSU will take on Notre Dame for its only Central Collegiate Hockey Association matchup in the month of December. In fact, the series will mark two of the just four games that the Falcons play in December. BGSU defeated Michigan State (3-2 OT) and tied Michigan (1-1) in its last two CCHA outings, with a 7-1 victory over the U.S. Under-18 Team nestled between. ND dropped a two-game series at Alaska Fairbanks last weekend (4-3 & 5-4) and split a two-game set at Michigan the week before.
Last Time vs. Notre Dame...
Bowling Green ended its regular season last year by dropping two games at Notre Dame (4-3 & 4-1). JR captain D'Arcy McConvey scored three of the four goals BGSU netted in the two games (all even-strength) while assisting on the other goal. Tyler Masters had 46 saves on 50 shots faced the first night while Jordan Sigalet stopped 31 of 35 shots faced the final night. ND won three of four games last season vs. BGSU. The only Falcon victory came Dec. 8 in a 4-2 victory at the BGSU Ice Arena. Brian Escobedo (PPG), Greg Day, Tyler Knight and Roger Leonard (EN) each scored for the Falcons.
Recent Bowling Green Games...
Nov. 22 - BGSU 3, Michigan State 2 (OT) - BGSU overcame two deficits, including one late in the third period, to defeat MSU in overtime on a D'Arcy McConvey goal at 3:10. It was the first Falcon victory over the Spartans in 12 games, dating back to Dec. 7, 1997. SO Ryan Minnabarriet (18:31, 2nd period) and SR Tyler Knight (18:06, 3rd period) each scored goals to tie the score and McConvey's goal gave BGSU its first win in the CCHA this year. SO Jordan Sigalet stopped 29 of 31 shots for the first CCHA win of his career.
Nov. 15 - BGSU 7, U.S. Under-18 1 (Exhib.) - BGSU scored five goals in the first period and went on to post a 7-1 exhibition win over the U.S. National Team Development Program Under-18 squad. Both JR Mark Wires (2-1--3) and JR D'Arcy McConvey (1-2--3) had three points in the first period, alone. Ryan Minnabarriet (PPG), Tyler Knight, Steve Brudzewski and Kip Horner (PPG) also scored for the Falcons. Goalie Tyler Masters played the first two periods, allowing one goal with 18 saves, while FR Bob Frazee played the third period with seven saves and no goals allowed.
Nov. 9 - BGSU 1, #6 Michigan 1 - Bowling Green got great goaltending by SO Jordan Sigalet and a goal by defenseman Kevin Bieksa to tie No. 6 Michigan at the BGSU Ice Arena. Sigalet tied a career-high for the second time this season with 48 saves while assisting on the lone Falcon goal. Michigan tied the game at 13:20 of the second period via Mark Mink's goal. It was the first time BGSU held Michigan to one goal in its last 52 meetings and it was the first time this season that UM was held under three goals.
Nov. 8 - #6 Michigan 6, BGSU 4 - Michigan scored four goals in the second period en route to a 6-4 victory over BGSU. Four different Falcons scored goals in the loss, including JR Kip Horner who netted his first collegiate goal with just six seconds remaining in the game. JR Mark Wires kicked off the scoring at just 3:17 into the first period. It was his team-leading fifth goal of the season. Other netters for BGSU came from SO Steve Brudzewski (PPG, 7:48 second period) and FR Brett Pilkington (PPG, 4:30 third period). UM had two power-play goals and a short-hander in the win. Sophomores Chris Pedota and Alex Rogosheske got their first points in the Brown and Orange with assists. SR Tyler Masters had 27 saves on 33 shots faced for BGSU.

The win snapped a 10-game winless streak in CCHA contests dating back to Feb. 23, 2002; broke a 12-game winless streak vs. MSU dating back to Dec. 7, 1997; and broke a seven-game winless streak at home vs. MSU dating back to Oct. 21, 1995.
Falcons Take Their Shots vs. Michigan St.
In the 3-2 OT win vs. Michigan State, the Falcons outshot their opponent for just the second time this season. BGSU held a 33-31 advantage on the Spartans, including 12-8 in the third period and 2-0 in overtime. The only other opponent BGSU has outshot this season was Niagara (27-24) in the season opener (4-1 BGSU win).
