Track and Field Announces Signees For 2003-04

The Bowling Green track and field team has announced the signing of five new student-athletes for 2003. The five new Falcons hail from: Celina, Ohio; Ann Arbor, Mich.; Battle Creek, Mich.; Northfield, Ohio; and Cincinnati, Ohio.
Lyndi Springer (Celina, Ohio) posted a personal-best in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 15.5. Her time in the 300 meter hurdles was an impressive 44.5. During the 2002 season she was a regional qualifier in cross country. Springer also placed fourth in the 300 meter hurdles at the 2002 Division I state meet. She also has a personal record of 63.26 in the 400 meter hurdles. "Lyndi struck us as an extremely fundamental and competitive individual," said Sehmann. "She possesses an inner drive to succeed and it will be exciting to watch her grow and compete as a Falcon." The daughter of Mark and Marlene Springer, Springer's high school head coach is Walt Shreffler. She has also worked with former Falcon soccer player Dan Otten.
Andrea Pollack (Ann Arbor, Mich.) comes to BG from Pioneer High School. Pollack has posted a personal-best time in the 5,000 meters of 19:02. Her time in the 3,200 meters was 11:35. "She is a real competitor who has the drive necessary to push her to higher levels academically and athletically," said Sehmann. "Andrea will be an asset to our distance program and I look forward to having her join us next fall." Pollack is the daughter of Joseph Pollack and Janis Conlin and is planning on majoring in apparel merchandising. She was a high school teammate of current Falcon Amber Culp.
Nicole Standback (Battle Creek, Mich.) placed fifth last year in the 100 meter hurdles and sixth in the 300 meter hurdles in the Division I state meet for Central High School. Standback also ran on two relay teams that placed at the state meet. She posted a personal best of 17'4" in the long jump and 4,021 points in the heptathlon. Nicole carries a 3.83 GPA and plans on majoring in Pre-Law. "Nicole brings a great deal of enthusiasm to improve our program," said Sehmann. "I believe she will contribute in numerous events in her first year." Standback's father, James, is the track coach at Central High.
Amanda Sefcik (Northfield, Ohio) comes to BG from Nordonia High School. As a sophomore, she placed third in the Division I state meet in the long jump with a distance of 18'6 1/2". As a junior, Sefcik placed second in long jump with a mark of 18'9" in the state meet. She was also a qualifier in the 100 meters and had a season best time of 12.2. Her other personal-best marks include a time of 25.2 in the 200 meters and 60.0 in the 400 meters. Coach Sehmann is excited about Sefck's choice to come to BG. "She brings solid marks into our program and she performed in a consistent manner throughout her high school career." She is the daughter of Tina Sefcik.
Veronica Vance (Cincinnati, Ohio) attends Wyoming High School. She was the 2002 Division II state runner-up in the long jump. She posted personal-best marks in the long jump with a distance of 18'2", a distance of 36'10" in the triple jump and a mark of 5'4" in the high jump. "Veronica brings added depth to this area of our program," said Sehmann. "It will be fun to watch her develop her talents over the next four years." Vance plans on majoring in psychology. She is the daughter of Fred and Mary Vance, both alums of BG.
