Falcon Gymnasts Remain Undefeated In the MAC

The Bowling Green Women's Gymnastics Team recorded its 11th, 12th and 13th wins of the season last weekend by defeating MAC opponents Northern Illinois and Kent State and Big Ten rival Ohio State.
Friday night the Falcons hosted the Huskies of Northern Illinois and posted a score of 194.075 to NIU's 189.800. Sunday the team traveled to the All-Ohio meet to compete against Ohio State and host Kent State. BG scored a season high 195.125 to KSU's 194.350 and the Buckeye's 194.450.
Several individual Falcon accomplishments must be recognized from last weekend. Senior Marny Oestreng again led the Falcons with two first place finishes in the vault (9.900) and the bars (9.900). She tied season high scores in both events. Junior Ann Marie Kassouf scored a season high 9.800 on the vault and tied her career high for the all-around with a 38.475. Fellow junior Rachel Hall earned a career high 9.900 on the floor exercise.
Freshmen Kristin DiPietro and Breanne Metzger also had impressive showings this weekend. DiPietro scored a career high on the vault (9.725) and the floor (9.850) while Metzger earned a career high 9.675 on the vault. Sophomore Melissa Popovich earned a season high on the bars (9.800) and a carer high on the floor with a 9.950.
The squad as a whole improved team scores as well. BG scored a season high 48.925 on the vault and a 49.475 on the floor exercise. BGSU is currently 13-1 overall and 4-0 in the MAC.
The Falcons return to action this Sunday, February 24 at 1 p.m. BG will travel to Kalamzaoo, MI to take on the Broncos of Western Michigan looking to remain undefeated in the conference.
