Falcons Host Final Home Series
Bowling Green has its final home series of the 2001-02 season this weekend when 12th-ranked Northern Michigan comes to the BGSU Ice Arena (Feb. 22-23). NMU enters the game fifth in the CCHA standings and on a two-game winning streak. BGSU ends its regular season next weekend with a two-game series at Notre Dame (March 1-2) and then plays in the first round of the CCHA Tournament March 8-10 at a site yet to be determined.
NOTE: Saturday's game vs. Northern Michigan will be broadcasted live on Fox Sports Detroit. Matt Shepard will do play-by-play with Fred Pletsch as color analyst and Shireen Saski at rinkside.
BGSU Versus #12 Northern Michigan (20-10-2 overall, 13-9-2 CCHA)
BGSU leads the all-time series 26-19-5 with NMU, including a 13-7-1 mark at home. However, the Wildcats are 3-2-0 in their last five trips to BGSU Ice Arena. The two teams kicked off their CCHA season way back on Oct. 19 in Marquette with the Wildcats taking game one, 2-1, and tying with BGSU, 3-3, in game two.
Head Coach Buddy Powers
Buddy Powers (Boston University '75) is in his eighth season as head coach of the Falcons. Powers has an overall record of 254-215-41 (.537 pct.) in 13 years as head coach at Bowling Green (1994-SA), Rensselaer (1989-94) and Rochester Institute of Technology (1988-89). The Jan. 5 game vs. Princeton was Powers' 500th as a head coach. His record with the Brown and Orange stands at 134-144-26 (.482 pct.). Appointed the head coach at Bowling Green on July 12, 1994, Powers is the fourth head coach in the program's history. It is his 14th season overall on the Falcon bench after serving six years as assistant coach under Jerry York from 1982-88.
BGSU Takes Three Points Away from Lake Superior
Bowling Green had five different Falcons score six goals last weekend vs. Lake Superior to take three of four points. BGSU won Friday night, 2-0, with goalie Tyler Masters posting his first shutout of the season and sixth in his career. JR Tyler Knight and SR Grady Moore netted goals for BG. Knight again struck first the following night for the Falcons, followed by SO Roger Leonard (PPG), Scott Hewson and D'Arcy McConvey in a 4-4 tie. McConvey tied a career-high with three points (1-2--3) in the contest. FR Jordan Sigalet played the entire 65:00 in net, finishing with 43 saves. The win/tie moved BGSU to within three points of 10th-place Miami in the CCHA standings.
Current Point Streaks
JR Tyler Knight is currently on a two-game goal streak for the Falcons, registering the game's first goal each night vs. Lake Superior. Several other Falcons have one-game point streaks. SR defenseman Marc Barlow had his three-game assist streak snapped on Feb. 16 vs. Lake Superior.
First Line of "Offense"
The first line of LW D'Arcy McConvey, C Greg Day and RW Scott Hewson combined for 2-4--6 in two games vs. Lake Superior last weekend. Not surprisingly, the three top scorers for the Falcons are Day (15-15--30), McConvey (8-14--22) and Hewson (8-12--20). McConvey's total moves him past his total from his freshman season of a year ago (4-15--19).
