Falcons Top Ohio, 80-64

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -

Bowling Green improves to 17-5 on the season ... the Falcons were 15-14 during all of last year.

BGSU now leads the season series with Ohio, 61-49 ... the Falcons have won six of the last seven games in Anderson Arena between the teams.

The win moved BGSU into a tie with OU for second place in the East Division ... both teams are 7-4 and tied for third place overall ... the top-three teams in the Mid-American Conference will earn a first-round bye for the conference tournament.

The Falcons now have a 43-7 record in "The House That Roars" since the 1998-99 season, including a 26-5 ledger against the MAC.

Senior Len Matela led BG and tied for game honors with 25 points ... the Merrillville, Ind., native made 10 field goals in 11 attempts in the win ... he also pulled down a game-high eight rebounds to surpass the 800 mark for his career ... Matela now has 1,340 career points (16th in school history) and 805 career rebounds (sixth in BG annals).

Senior Brandon Pardon had 13 assists, just one off his career high (set vs. Northern Illinois on Jan. 8) ... Pardon, who entered the game ranked 14th in the nation in assists (6.4 apg), now has 147 assists in 22 games this year, including 85 in 11 MAC contests.

Senior Keith McLeod scored 20 points, his 12th game this year of at least 20 points, and the 36th of his career ... McLeod remains sixth on the BGSU career scoring list with a total of 1,661 points as a Falcon.

BGSU entered the game ranked 10th in the country in three-point field-goal percentage, and the Falcons went 5-of-8 (.625) from beyond the arc ... McLeod made both of his long-range attempts, while freshman Kris Wilson hit his only long-distance try ... junior Cory Ryan was 2-of-3 from three-point land in the game.

Sophomore Josh Almanson gave the Falcons a spark off the bench, scoring 10 points and grabbing five rebounds in 22 minutes ... Almanson was a perfect 5-for-5 from the field as the Falcons shot .596 (28-of-47) in the win ... that FG pct. was the best in a MAC game this season for the Brown and Orange.

Almanson's play off the bench continued a trend for the Falcons this year ... his 10-point outing marked the ninth time this season that a BG player has come off the bench to score in double digits in a game ... Almanson leads the team with four such games, while Ryan has three and Kevin Netter two.
