ORLANDO, Fla. - Colorado State University scored six times in the ninth inning to deal the Bowling Green State University softball team an 11-7 setback Monday night (March 11). The game, BGSU's second at the Rebel Spring Games, was held in Orlando, Fla.
The Rams scored in each of the first three innings to take a 4-0 lead, but the Falcons rallied for two runs in the bottom of the third. Neither team would score again until the top of the seventh, when CSU got a single run to extend the lead to three. The Brown and Orange, however, scored three times in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings.
After CSU's six-run uprising in the ninth, however, the Falcons could get only two runs in their half of the frame.
Junior McKenna Houle, who pitched the bulk of the game in relief of senior starter Andrea Genter, took the loss. Senior Jessie Milosek also saw action, coming on in the ninth inning.
At the plate, junior Kandice Machain went 4-for-5 at the plate to provide half of BGSU's eight-hit offense. Machain went 6-for-7 on the day, having had two hits in as many at-bats in Monday afternoon's 7-6 win over Rider.
Junior Libby Voshell had two hits, both doubles, in three trips to the plate, and had three RBI vs. the Rams.
The Falcons, now 3-5 on the year, continue action in the Rebel Spring Games with a pair of Tuesday (March 12) contests. BGSU will take on Penn and Monmouth in the third and fourth games, respectively, of the Falcons' 10-game trip.
