ORLANDO, Fla. - Junior McKenna Houle surrendered just three hits, and the Bowling Green State University softball team scored in each of the final two innings for a 2-1 win over Bucknell University Thursday (March 14). The game, BGSU's seventh contest in the Rebel Spring Games, was held in Orlando, Fla.
The win improved the Falcons to 6-7 on the season. BGSU is now 3-3 in one-run games on the season, including a 3-1 record in such games on the team's spring trip.
For the second consecutive game, the Falcons posted a win in the final at-bat. Against BU, a bases-loaded, walk-off single by freshman Sara "Sam" Moore produced the winning run.
The game was scoreless until the Bison plated an unearned run in the top of the sixth. BU's run game on a walk, a stolen base, a groundout and a passed ball.
The Falcons scored an unearned run of their own in the bottom of the frame. Senior Natalie Phillips reached base on a BU error, advanced on a double by junior Libby Voshell, and came home on a sacrifice fly by senior Renee Rosemeier to tie the game.
Houle retired the Bison in order in the top of the seventh, setting the stage for the Falcons' game-winning rally. Another BU error allowed sophomore Jenifer Kernahan to reach base, and senior Holly Frantz hit into a fielder's choice, with both runners advancing safely. A single by freshman Lauren Lennox loaded the bases, before Moore's single gave the Falcons the win.
The Falcons outhit the Bison by a 5-3 margin. BGSU returned to action later Thursday against Tennessee Martin.
