Four Honored At Annual Scholar-Athlete Honors Banquet

Bowling Green, Ohio - Juniors Nicolas Lopez-Acevedo (men's tennis) and Christy Paine (track/cross country) and seniors Tony Malik (men's soccer) and Andrea Genter (softball) took home top honors at the BGSU Student-Athlete Honors Banquet, Sunday evening. The banquet recognizes the top junior and senior scholar-athletes.
Lopez-Acevedo was named the Falcon Club Male Junior Scholar-Athlete of the Year. He has a 3.73 grade point average and is majoring in biology. He was named the MAC's Newcomer of the Year and an All-MAC second-team selection in 1999-2000. His 45 wins led the team and tied him for the fourth-highest single-season total in school history. He shared the team's Most Improved Player Award and was one of three Falcons to compete at the ITA Region IV Championship. He was named to the MAC Honor Roll for the 2000-01 season.
Paine was named he Falcon Club Female Junior Scholar-Athlete of the Year. She has a 4.0 grade point average in pre-physical therapy. T She is a member of the Pre-Physical Therapy Club, Honors Student Association, and Student Alumni Association. This student-athlete has been named to the Dean's list for five straight semesters while at Bowling Green State University. She has also been named to Academic All-MAC team and MAC honor roll. This junior Ford Scholar for Golden Key award winner is also a member of the Alpha Lamda Delta and Phi Eta Sigma hopnor societies and was recently inducted to the Golden Key International Honors Society.
Malik is the recipient of the 2001-02 Male Scholar Athlete of the Year award. He appeared in all 18 games this season and played in every minute of every match. Named to the Mid-American Conference first team for his outstanding playing ability, Malik was named to the MAC Academic Honor Roll for two consecutive years for his scholarly achievements. He also was selected as the BGSU Falcon Club Male Junior Student-Athlete of the Year in 2000. He has a 3.79 grade-point average in marketing and is a finalist for the prestigious NCAA scholar-athlete post graduate scholarship .
Genter is the recipient of the 2001-02 Female Scholar Athlete-of-the-Year Award. She was named to the Verizon Academic All-District Second Team and named to the MAC Honor Roll for two consecutive years. In 1999, she was named the softball programs Most Improved Player. She also had a career-high nine strikeouts in a complete game win at Buffalo in the 2001 season. She maintains an overall grade-point average of 3.97 in Early Childhood Education.
