Bowling Green, Ohio - In game two of Saturday's doubleheader, Len Elias again plated the game-winning run in the sixth inning. This time, though, the senior hit a solo home run to right field with the scored tied at 5-5 to give the Falcons the lead. Freshman Jeff Warnock added a solo blast of his own later in the inning, the first of his career, for the final 7-5 verdict.
BGSU gained the lead first by plating two runs in the second inning. Elias hit an RBI-triple to left-center field, scoring Nick Elrod, then Jimmy Lipari dropped a single to left field to score Elias.
EKU took the lead in the fourth inning with three runs. The game seesawed back and forth from there with the game tied twice more.
The Falcons took the lead in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI-single from Spencer Schmitz and sacrifice fly by Warnock. After EKU tied the score in the top of the fifth, Hunt hit a sacrifice fly to retake the lead in the bottom-half of the inning.
The Colonels wouldn't go away, knotting the score at 5-5 in the top of the sixth before Elias' dramatics in the home-half of the sixth inning.
Sophomore Neil Schmitz (2-1) entered in relief in the sixth inning to pick up his second win of the season. The left-hander allowed no hits or runs with two strikeouts in one and one-third of an inning.
Elias finished a double away from the cycle in the 7-5 victory. He ended the day 4-for-7 with three RBIs, including two game-winners. Tim Newell finished the two games 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored.
BGSU (23-19 overall) returns to Mid-American Conference action next weekend with a four-game series at East Division leading Kent State (May 10-12).
