BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Shelley Binzel is the Bowling Green State University Scholar-Athlete of the Week. Binzel, a senior on the BGSU women's golf team, broke her own school record by carding a tournament-low 148 for 36 holes, as BG won the nine-team Lady Falcon Invitational, held Saturday and Sunday (Sept. 21-22).
It marked the first tournament victory for the Falcons this season, as BGSU's team score of 622 beat second-place Toledo by eight strokes.
Binzel's previous school record was a 149, carded at last year's Falcon Invite. She shot a 74 on both Saturday and Sunday for the win. Binzel (Dublin, Ohio/Coffman) won the Lady Falcon Invitational after finishing second as both a freshman and a junior, and placing third as a sophomore
BGSU's team score was just two strokes off of the 36-hole school record the Falcons had set just two weeks prior at the Ball State Invitational (620). That score had broken a 22-year-old record of 625 set in 1980.
Binzel maintains a 3.74 cumulative GPA as a marketing major.
