Bowling Green, Ohio - Bowling Green State University Director of Athletics Paul Krebs has announced that WLQR Radio (1470-AM) in Toledo has joined the BGSU Radio Network as an affiliate and will carry at least two BGSU football games live later in the 2002 season.
Those games are expected to be the November 23 home game with Eastern Michigan and the November 30 season finale against Toledo.
WLQR Radio, a member of the Cumulus Broadcasting family, is an ESPN Radio affiliate and is the only station in Toledo whose programming is solely devoted to sports. WBVI-FM in Fostoria is the flagship station for BGSU football and men's basketball.
Also known locally as "The Ticket". WLQR Radio is the local radio home for the Toledo Mud Hens, Detroit Tigers, Ohio State Buckeyes and the Detroit Red Wings.
"We are excited about our new relationship with "The Ticket" and Cumulus Broadcasting," said Krebs. "Interest in BGSU athletics continues to grow and this is an opportunity to expand our coverage that we hope will lead to a long-term relationship."
WLQR Sports Director Norm Wamer will join the broadcast team of Dave Horger and Mark Miller for those final two games.
""I'm excited and happy that we can bring the Toledo area at least two Falcon football games this season," said Wamer. "BG athletics are a very important to thousands of sports fans in our region, and very important to us as our area's only all-sports station."
