Bowling Green Travels to #7 Ohio State for Thursday-Friday Series
BGSU makes its first trip to Columbus since Nov. 18-19, 2000, this week for a two-game series against nationally-ranked Ohio State at Value City Arena. The two games will be Thursday and Friday against the #7-ranked Buckeyes. Both faceoffs are scheduled for 7:05 p.m. and will be broadcasted live on the Ohio News Network (ONN).
BGSU vs. #7 Ohio State (15-4-2 overall, 9-2-1 CCHA)
The Falcons go against Ohio State for the first and only time this season at Value City Arena on Thursday and Friday, Jan. 16-17. OSU enters the series unbeaten in its last eight games (7-0-1) and are tied for second-place with Michigan in the CCHA standings. Meanwhile, the Falcons are coming off their first weekend series sweep since March 2-3, 2001. BGSU holds the all-time series lead with OSU, 86-48-4 in varsity action, dating back to Dec. 5, 1969. The two teams split a two-game series last year at the BGSU Ice Arena (BG 5-3, OSU 4-3). The Falcons have won six of the last 10 meetings, but are 2-3-0 at the Value City Arena.

Jan. 11 - BGSU 5, Northern Michigan 3
BGSU earned its first series sweep in nearly two years with a 5-3 win over NMU on Saturday. The Falcons overcame a two-goal deficit to score four-straight goals, including three in the third period, for the win. SO Steve Brudzewski had an empty-net goal and two assists while JR Roger Leonard scored two goals, including one PPG and the game-winner, to pace the Falcons. SO Jordan Sigalet had 26 saves in net for BGSU while the Falcons outshot NMU 32-29. BGSU was 3-for-4 on the power play and NMU was 1-for-4.
Jan. 10 - BGSU 3, Northern Michigan 2 The Falcons snapped a six-game winless streak with a 3-2 win over visiting Northern Michigan last Friday at the BGSU Ice Arena. FR Ryan Barnett scored his first game-winner at 13:03 of the third period while SO Jordan Sigalet had 34 saves in net for the Falcons to earn first-star honors. SO Ryan Minnabarriet got the Falcons on the board first at 6:45 of the second period. After NMU tied the score midway through the period, JR Mark Wires scored his third PPG of the season to regain the lead for the Falcons at 14:33 of the period. NMU outshot BGSU 36-20, but were held 0-for-3 on the power play. The Falcons were 1-for-3.
Bust Out the Brooms
BGSU gained its first two-game series sweep in either non-conference or CCHA play in two years with two wins over NMU last weekend (Jan. 10-11). The last weekend series sweep for the Falcons came March 2-3, 2001, at the BGSU Ice Arena over Ferris State (1-0 OT, 3-2).
Back-To-Back Wins
The last time BGSU had two wins in a row was last season with back-to-back victories over Wayne State (4-1, Nov. 17) and LSSU (3-2, Nov. 23).
Saturday Night's All Right for Winning
BGSU's 5-3 win over NMU was the first for the Falcons on Saturday night this season. BGSU was 0-7-1 on Saturday night entering the NMU series.
Sigalet Turns In Two Wins
SO Jordan Sigalet recorded back-to-back wins in net for BGSU last weekend vs. NMU, helping the Falcons to their first series sweep in nearly two years. Sigalet earned first-star honors on Friday with 34 saves on 36 shots and held the #4-ranked power-play in the country to 0-for-3, giving up one even-strength and one short-handed goal. The next night, Sigalet allowed one PPG and assisted on BGSU's last goal of the game for his second career assist.
Home Is Where the Wins Are
SO Jordan Sigalet improved his home-ice record at the BGSU Ice Arena to 3-0-2 this season with two wins vs. NMU. Sigalet's home-ice numbers this year are 3-0-2, 2.11 gaa., .942 save pct., and 180 saves in 313:10 minutes of work.
Falcon Power Play Trifecta
The Falcons scored three PPGs in a game for just the second time this season by going 3-for-4 on Saturday vs. NMU. BGSU had three PPGs vs. Western Michigan (3-for-6) in a 6-5 loss at home on Oct. 11. BGSU was 4-for-7 on the power play for the weekend vs. NMU.
"Brew" Time
SO Steve Brudzewski had a career-high three points on Saturday with an empty-net goal and two assists in a 5-3 win over NMU. It also marked Brudzewski's fourth multiple-point game this season. The Dearborn, Mich., native leads BGSU in goals (nine), points (16), and is tied for the team lead in PPGs and SHGs. He has scored a point in seven of his last 11 games (6-4--10).
Spreading the Wealth
The eight goals scored last weekend vs. NMU came off the sticks of seven different Falcons. The only BGSU player with multiple goals was JR Roger Leonard with two (career-high). Four of those eight goals came in the third period of the two games, while the BGSU defense held one of the top offenses in the CCHA scoreless in the third period all weekend.
