BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - John Reimold is the Bowling Green State University Scholar-Athlete of the Week. Reimold, a redshirt sophomore on the BGSU men's basketball team, helped the Falcons to a win over Cleveland State last weekend.
Reimold, a native of Greenville, Pa. (Kennedy Catholic H.S.), was honored by the Mid-American Conference office earlier in the week, as he was named the MAC's Player of the Week for the first time in his Falcon career.
Reimold was named BG's John McClendon Outstanding Player Award winner for his 24-point effort in leading the Falcons to an 80-72 comeback win over CSU in Saturday's (Dec. 28) Rock 'N Roll Shootout at Gund Arena. Reimold set a Shootout standard by making all 11 free throw attempts and he added five rebounds and three blocked shots.
With BG trailing 26-16, Reimold scored seven of the Falcons' next 10 points to tie the contest with 2:38 left in the half. BG trailed by five points at the half, before Reimold scored seven of the Falcons' first nine second-half points to give BG a 39-35 lead. The Falcons never trailed thereafter.
Reimold, undecided on a major, entered the 2002-03 academic year with a 3.02 cumulative grade point average.
The Falcons of head coach Dan Dakich, 5-4 overall and 1-0 in Mid-American Conference play, travel to DeKalb, Ill., for a Saturday (Jan. 5) contest vs. Northern Illinois University. That game will mark BGSU's first intradivisional game as a member of the MAC's West Division.
