Magner, Patton Earn MAC Honors

CLEVELAND, Ohio (BGSUFalcons.com) - A pair of Bowling Green State University football standouts have been honored as Mid-American Conference Players of the Week, the league office announced Monday afternoon (Oct. 13). Junior Cole Magner shared MAC West Division Offensive P-O-W honors, while senior Janssen Patton was named the West Division Defensive Player of the Week.
Patton earns the honor for the third time in his career. He also was named a MAC Player of the Week after BGSU road wins over Kent State (2000) and Missouri (2001). Magner earns such honors for the first time in his Falcon career.
Magner, a native of Palmer, Alaska, caught 11 passes for 140 yards and two touchdowns in the Falcons' 32-21 win at Western Michigan Saturday (Oct. 11). He also had 31 rushing, including a 24-yard carry to the Broncos' one-yard line to set up a third BGSU touchdown.
Magner's two TD catches came in the first half, helping the Brown and Orange to a 19-0 lead at the intermission.

Patton also had four tackles, and had a total of four passes defended, in the win. He increased his total to 15 career interceptions, good for second in BGSU history and tied for sixth on the MAC list.
Magner shared his Offensive P-O-W honor with Michael Turner of Northern Illnois, while NIU's Steve Azar was the West's Special Teams Player of the Week. In the East Division, Ohio's Austen Everson (offense) and Miami's Derek Rehage (defense) and Ryne Robinson (special teams) took home the weekly awards.
The Falcons, now 5-1 overall and 2-0 in MAC play, head to Ypsilanti, Mich., for a Saturday (Oct. 18) game vs. Eastern Michigan. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. at EMU's Rynearson Stadium.
