BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University volleyball team hits the road for the second consecutive week with trips to Ohio and Marshall this weekend. The Falcons will look to end a two-game losing streak after dropping matches to Eastern and Central Michigan this past weekend.
BGSU (11-12, 3-6 MAC) lost a four-set match to EMU 27-30, 30-20, 27-30, 15-30 last Friday night. In the match BGSU had a team-high 102 digs, led by freshman Chrissy Gothke and school-record 30 digs. The 30-dig mark in four games breaks former Falcon Holli Costein's 29 digs in four games (set back in 1990 vs. Northwestern). That's the second time this season Costein has had a school record broken after senior Susie Norris broke her 1,344 career digs record earlier this season.
The following night Central Michigan swept BGSU 26-30, 25-30, 20-30 at Rose Arena. Junior Taylor Twite led the way for the Brown & Orange with a team-high 16 kills, as well as a .480 hitting percentage.
A LOOK AT THE OPPONENTS
The Ohio Bobcats (18-3, 9-0 MAC) sit atop the Mid-American Conference standings after defeating Kent State and Miami this past weekend. The Falcons own a 40-12 series lead over the Bobcats, despite being swept last season.
Bowling Green travels to Marshall (15-11, 5-4 MAC) the following night where the Herd have lost two of their last three MAC matches with a win over Buffalo and losses to Central Michigan and Akron. BGSU holds an 8-2 series lead over Marshall, despite the loss they suffered last season at home to the Herd.
