BGSU Ends Six-Game Homestand With Niagara

Bowling Green Finishes Six-Game Homestand This Friday
Bowling Green ends its six-game homestand this Friday when it hosts non-conference opponent Niagara at the BGSU Ice Arena. Face-off is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. The Falcons will next travel to Lake Superior (Nov. 14-15) for a two-game series, then play one game each at Cornell (Nov. 21), Colgate (Nov. 22), and Western Michigan (Nov. 25).
BGSU vs. Niagara
Friday's contest will be just the third meeting between the two teams with the series even at 1-1. BGSU took a 4-1 victory from the Purple Eagles in Scott Paluch's debut as Falcons head coach at the Lefty McFadden Invitational last season (Oct. 1). The first meeting between the two teams was Dec. 30, 2000, with Niagara registering a 7-2 home victory.
Niagara Purple Eagles
Niagara is a member of College Hockey America (CHA) and enters Friday's game with a 2-3-0 overall record and 1-0-0 ledger in league games. The Purple Eagles are coming off a 6-2 loss at Michigan last weekend. JR forward Barret Ehgoetz is fifth in the nation with 1.20 goals per game and leads the team with 6-1--7 in five games, while three different goalies have been between the posts. NU is coached by 3rd-year coach Dave Burkholder (34-32-6).
Falcon Penalty Kill Playing Well
The BGSU penalty kill held the No. 2-ranked power play in the nation scoreless in 11 attempts over the weekend. Miami was 0-for-5 on Friday and 0-for-6 on Saturday with the man advantage after entering the game with a .333 power play percentage (15-of-45).
BGSU Special Teams Special
Special teams were special for BGSU last weekend vs. Miami. The 11 penalty kills in two games for the Falcons improved their season penalty-kill pct. to .907 (39-of-43), ranked 13th nationally. BGSU also threw in four PPGs and improved its record to 2-0-2 when scoring a power-play goal.
Ohio Cup Overfloweth
BGSU took the early lead in the race for the Ohio Cup by taking three points from Miami last weekend. The Ohio Cup has existed for 21 years and goes to the team with the best head-to-head record between Bowling Green, Miami and Ohio State. BGSU has won 12 times.
Wires Wicked In Last Four Games
SR Mark Wires extended his current point streak to four games with two goals and an assist in two game vs. Miami last weekend. Wires has tallied 3-2--5 over his last four games, including two goals in a four-goal comeback by BGSU on Saturday vs. the RedHawks.
Meloche Making Waves
FR Rich Meloche scored the final two goals of the game in a 4-4 tie vs. Miami on Nov. 1. Meloche scored at 9:28 of the third period and then again on the BGSU power play with just 47 seconds remaining in the third period to complete a dramatic four-goal comeback by the Falcons. Meloche also assisted on a goal in Friday's 4-1 victory to finish with 2-1--3 for the weekend. Meloche leads the Falcons with four goals and is tied for third with five points, along with a .200 shot percentage.
