
Cardinals Sweep Falcons 3-0 on Senior Night

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University fell to 12-15 overall and 4-9 in the Mid-American Conference after a 3-0 sweep at the hands of the Ball State Cardinals. Despite the loss, Taylor Twite continued her dominating weekend with a 19-kill performance, and Susie Norris celebrated senior night with a school record 33 digs, which ranks eleventh all-time in Division I history.
The Falcons dug themselves a gigantic hole to begin the match with the Cardinals, by falling behind 17-9. Bowling Green rallied back to get within three points at 24-21 after a Melissa Mohr kill. With Ball State leading 29-25, the Falcons turned to their seniors to get them back in the match. Kills by Samantha Rennau, Susie Norris and Nadia Bedricky got the score to 29-28, before a Ball State kill closed out game one 30-28.
BGSU got out to a rocky start trailing 7-2 early, but put together a 7-2 run of their own to knot the score at 9-9 to begin game two. With the score tied at 19-19, BSU went on an 8-2 run to take a commanding 27-21 lead. The Brown & Orange would not go down easy, rallying back to within one at 29-28 after a Taylor Twite kill. Ball State's star, Sarah Obras slammed home one of her 17 kills on the night to put an end to the BGSU comeback, capturing game two, 30-28.
Much like game two, BGSU fell behind early after an 11-5 run to open the match by Ball State. Bowling Green got to within three at 16-13 after a Ball State attack error. The Cardinals regained momentum with a 7-4 run to take a 23-17 lead and a three game sweep over the Falcons with a 30-21 game three victory.
For the match, Taylor Twite led the team with 19 kills and a .356 hitting percentage. Over the weekends matches she averaged 6.43 kills per game and hit .422. She also chipped in with 1.14 blocks per game.
Susie Norris established a new school record with 33 digs in a three set match. The previous record of 25 was held by Lisa Mika, which was established versus Alabama in 1990.
The Falcons return to action on November 12, when they play host to Akron at Anderson Arena. The match is set to begin at 7:00 p.m.
