Wenzel Named MAC Scholar-Athlete Of Week

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Bowling Green State University senior Stefanie Wenzel has earned the Mid-American Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week award, the conference office has announced. Wenzel, a guard on the Falcon women's basketball team, earns the honor for the second time in three weeks and the third time in her BGSU career. She also earned the award on Dec. 2, and picked up the honor once during her sophomore season (Jan. 15, 2002) as well.
Wenzel, a native of Sussex, Wis. (Hartland Arrowhead HS), had 12 points and five rebounds in the Falcons' lone game last week, a 70-63 loss to Oakland Saturday (Dec. 13). She has hit double digits in scoring in each of the last six games, and leads BGSU with 15.0 points per game this year.
Wenzel currently has 748 points in her Falcon career. This year, in addition to the 15.0 ppg, she also averages 4.1 rebounds and is shooting .531 from three-point land. Wenzel has made 17 shots in 32 attempts from beyond the arc this season.
Wenzel, an integrated language arts major, currently maintains a 3.97 cumulative GPA.
The MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week honor is presented to a MAC male and female student-athlete who has a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and performs well during the previous week's competition. The winners are selected by one of the conference's faculty athletic representatives.
