Bowling Green, Ohio - Bowling Green State University has reached an agreement with Falcon football coach Gregg Brandon on a two-year contract extension through the 2008 season, BGSU Athletic Director Paul Krebs announced following the Falcons 28-24 win in the Motor City Bowl. Terms will be finalized when the two return from family vacations in early January.
"The University is thrilled with the success and overall direction of the football program under Coach Brandon and his staff," said Krebs. "This was an outstanding year in so many respects and we are pleased to reach this agreement."
The Falcons tied the school record for wins with 11, were ranked 24th in the BCS standings, won the MAC West Championship, and spent seven weeks in the Associated Press Top 25. In addition, the Falcons won games against nationally ranked Purdue and Northern Illinois, recorded two home sellouts and appeared on national television five times. With the bowl win over Northwestern, BGSU became the first MAC squad to ever win a postseason game against a Big Ten foe. Ranked #26 in the last AP poll, the Falcons have a chance to be ranked in the Top 25 for the first time in school history at the end of a season.
"My family and I are extremely excited about our future at Bowling Green," said Brandon. "We have great players and outstanding coaches and when you couple that with the unconditional support of the student body and University community it makes for an awesome place to be a Division IA football coach."
