RICHMOND, Ky. -
BGSU HEAD COACH Curt Miller
"That is as big a win at we've had in my three years. Coming off the IUPUI game (an 89-74 loss on Dec. 22), this was a huge gut-check. We had a lot of things that were brought to the table by the team (after that game). I had to look myself in the mirror after that coaching performance, and some of the kids had to look themselves in the mirror. And, I can't be more proud."
"We showed a lot of character tonight; that was a very good Eastern Kentucky team that we beat from start to finish. This is a huge win for our program."
"Liz Honegger just seemed to be everywhere, and she hit the back-breaking three's at the end of the game when we spread it out. She is a hard matchup (for the opponents), because she scores inside and is a talented three-point shooter. And, she was everywhere. It seemed like she was blocking shots or getting deflections every time I turned around."
"The freshman are playing well for us. Ali Mann is up there in nearly every MAC statistical category, and I think Megan Thorburn is a go-to freshman, and as good a freshman as there is in the league. And, Liz just showed her character tonight. She had a tremendous amount of family and friends in attendance at the IUPUI game, and struggled. I know that was devastating to her, but what character she showed to come back and play the way she did tonight. It just shows how talented that freshman class is. Carin Horne struggled from the field tonight, but she is getting better and better each day. Amber Flynn came in and gave us some important minutes when we were in foul trouble. Julie Gompers is caught behind Lindsay Austin right now, but she gets better and better every day. Unfortunately, Kim Nowakowski is injured, but I love our freshman class."
(On the EKU run early in the second half:)
"We talked at halftime, and early in the second half, about the fact that Eastern is a good team. They won 18 games last year, and were disappointed. Two years ago, when we scheduled this game, they were ranked in the top 75 in the country. I told our kids that this (EKU) team doesn't lose; they have to be beaten. They're not going to hand it to us because we outplayed them for 20 minutes. We had to go earn the victory; we had to win the game, and not just hang on and hope we could pull it out."
"And, our kids responded. Katie Kelly put them on her back early in the second half, and we made some adjustments. Our kids dug deep and did what was necessary to win that game."
"You can probably hear the excitement in my voice. That's as big a win as we've had."
"Kevin Eckert, a very important member of our family and a great assistant coach, missed tonight's game due to a family funeral. Our kids absolutely love Kevin; he's a huge part of our program, and Kevin, we won this one for you."
