BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Mike Thaler is the Bowling Green State University Scholar-Athlete of the Week. Thaler, a sophomore on the BGSU football team, helped the Falcons to an important win over the weekend.
Thaler, a native of Cincinnati, Ohio (LaSalle HS), helped BGSU to the Mid-American Conference's West Division title with Saturday's (Nov. 29) 31-23 win over arch-rival Toledo before a sellout crowd at Perry Stadium.
The defensive lineman had a pair of tackles as the Falcons closed MAC play at 7-1. The Brown and Orange won a division title for the first time since the league went to divisional play prior to the 1997 season.
On the season, Thaler has a total of 57 tackles to rank eighth on the team.
Thaler, a redshirt sophomore, is undecided upon a major, but currently maintains a 3.30 cumulative grade point average.
The Falcons, 10-2 overall, will host East Division champion Miami University in the MAC Championship game Thursday (Dec. 4) at Perry Stadium. That nationally-televised game will begin at 7:00 p.m.
