Falcons Fall Short Against WMU, 67-65

Bowling Green, Ohio - Western Michigan made eight of nine free throws in the final 2:38 and held off Bowling Green, 67-65 in a Mid-American Conference game at Anderson Arena, Saturday afternoon.
The Broncos, who led by as many as 10 in the first half only to see BGSU cut the halftime deficit to 27-25, built a 40-32 advantage with 13:28 remaining. The Falcons kept the score close and took its first lead of the half on a desperation three-pointer by senior Cory Ryan with 6:30 to go to lead 53-50. The Falcons took its final lead at 56-53 on a conventional three-point play by junior Jabari Mattox with 5:39 to go.
Western regained the lead at 57-56 on a pair of free throws by Robby Collum with 2:38 left. Collum finished with a game-high 18 points. Mike Williams came up with the game's biggest play rebounding his own miss with 53 seconds left and scored three on a putback and subsequent free throw to lead 62-58.
The Falcons had one more chance to tie the game when freshman Ron Lewis was fouled on a three-point attempt with 3.8 seconds left. Lewis, who finished with 15 points, missed the first, made the second and intentionally missed the third attempt, but the Broncos were awarded possession and ran out the clock for the win.
BGSU is 10-12 and 6-8 in the MAC, while Western Michigan improves to 14-7 and 6-6. The Falcons were led by junior Kevin Netter's 15 points. John Reimold added 11 as did Ryan.
