Falcons Face Western Michigan for Final Time This Season (Feb. 21-22)
BGSU will play a home-and-home series with Western Michigan this weekend (Feb. 21-22). The Falcons travel to Kalamazoo on Friday before hosting the Broncos on Saturday at the BGSU Ice Arena. Both games are scheduled for a 7:05 p.m. faceoff.
BGSU vs. Western Michigan (13-16-1 overall, 11-11-0 CCHA)
Bowling Green will try to snap a five-game losing streak to Western Michigan on Friday at Lawson Arena in Kalamazoo, Mich. The Broncos have won five-straight, including two one-goal games back in October, against the Falcons. In fact, four of the five WMU victories have been by just one goal, including two in overtime. However, BGSU holds the all-time series lead 62-43-3. The last Falcon win over WMU came on Feb. 23, 2001, at the BGSU Ice Arena (4-2). The last BGSU win in Lawson Arena was Oct. 23, 1999 (5-4). Eight of the last 10 matchups have been decided by two goals or less.
The Last Time vs. Western Michigan...
WMU scored two first-period goals, followed by two second-period goals by BGSU, before Vince Bellissimo scored the game-winner for the Broncos at 2:40 of the third period in a 3-2 win over BGSU on Oct. 12 at Lawson Arena. JR Mark Wires and SO Ryan Minnabarriet each scored for the Falcons while SO Jordan Sigalet had 24 saves. BGSU had 21 shots compared to WMU's 27. The previous night at the BGSU Ice Arena, Bellissimo scored the game-winner just 25 seconds into overtime for a 6-5 Bronco victory. WMU outshot BGSU 50-23 while the Falcons were 3-for-6 on its power play. WMU was 0-for-7 on the power play. SR Tyler Masters had 44 saves for Bowling Green and SO Steve Brudzewski scored two goals (PPG and SHG).

Falcon Penalties on the Decline
BGSU ranks fifth among CCHA schools in penalties taken this season (205) over 28 games played. The Falcons are eighth in penalty minutes per game (16.96), as well. The 7.3 penalties and 16.96 penalty minutes per game are the lowest in 10 years for BGSU. The Falcons averaged 7.3 penalties and 16.1 penalty minutes per game in 1992-93. In the nine years between, the Falcons averaged 9.2 penalties per game and 21.1 penalty minutes per game, covering 348 games played.
Leonard On Season-Best Point Streak
JR Roger Leonard is on his longest point streak of the season with 2-1--3 in his last three games. Leonard finished with a goal and assist in two games vs. Notre Dame, and was plus-two. He has scored a point in four of his last five games (2-3--5).
Brudzewski Back On Track
After his longest scoring drought of the season (four games), SO Steve Brudzewski has scored three goals in his last four games, including a four-on-four and PPG last weekend vs. Notre Dame. Brudzewski leads BGSU with 12 goals this season, with six of those coming on BGSU special teams (4 PPG, 2 SHG).
Knight Ties Career Bests in PPGs and Overall Goals
SR Tyler Knight netted his third PPG of the season, and seventh overall, on Saturday vs. Notre Dame. The three PPGs and seven overall this season equal his previous season-bests from his freshman year.
Masters Back In Net for Falcons
SR goalie Tyler Masters made his first start since Jan. 17 at Ohio State on Friday vs. Notre Dame. Masters had 34 saves in the 3-2 loss to give him 3,179 for his career and move him to within 401 of BGSU all-time saves leader Gary Kruzich (3,580). For his career, he is averaging just under 30 saves per outing (29.95) and is averaging 32.38 per game this season.
