BGSU Travels to #8-Ranked Michigan for First Round of CCHA Playoffs
BGSU will travel to #8 Michigan this weekend for the first round of the Central Collegiate Hockey Association playoffs. The best-of-three series begins Friday, March 14, at 7:35 p.m. in Yost Ice Arena. The Falcons are the #11 seed while UM is the #2 seed. Saturday's game and Sunday's (if needed) will also be played at 7:35 p.m.
BGSU vs. #8 Michigan (24-9-3 overall, 18-7-3 CCHA)
Michigan leads the all-time series versus BGSU, 59-30-3, including 33-14-0 at Yost Ice Arena. UM also holds a 5-2 record against BGSU in the CCHA Playoffs. However, the Falcons have won in two of their last three trips to Yost Ice Arena (March 4, 2000, 6-3 and Jan. 25, 2002, 4-2). And, the Falcons are the only team to defeat the Wolverines at home in the CCHA Playoffs. Rob Blake scored the game-winner in the third overtime of the third, and deciding, playoff game on March 5, 1989, to advance BGSU past Michigan.
The Last Time vs. Michigan...
The two teams met earlier this season at the BGSU Ice Arena, Nov. 8-9, with UM winning the first game (6-4) and BGSU fighting for a tie the next night (1-1). Five different Falcons scored in the two games, including JR Mark Wires and SO Steve Brudzewski who tallied PPGs in the first game. JR Kevin Bieska scored the lone Falcon goal on Nov. 9. SO Jordan Sigalet earned the 1-1 tie in net by stopping 48 of 49 shots, tying a career-high for saves, and assisted on Bieksa's goal.

BGSU is the only team to post a winning road record in CCHA playoff competition. The Falcons' record stands at 16-15-2, including a 5-3 mark the past three seasons.
BGSU Playoff Leaders...
JR defenseman Kevin Bieksa leads the Falcons in playoff scoring with three goals and one assist in six games. SR Tyler Knight has one goal and two assists in nine games, while JR D'Arcy McConvey has scored two assists in six games. SR goaltender Tyler Masters has posted a 5-4-0 record with a 1.91 gaa and a .946 save percentage.
Wires Goes Solo vs. Ferris State
JR Mark Wires scored two unassisted goals in last weekend's series vs. #5 Ferris State. Wires had one of BGSU's two goals on Friday night in a 4-2 loss while he added another goal and an assist on Saturday in a 4-3 setback. Wires now leads the Falcons with 13 goals and a .167 shooting pct. He is second on the team with 27 points.
Falk Moves Goal Streak to Three Games
FR Mike Falk scored goals in both games vs. Ferris State last weekend to raise his total to 10 this season, tops among the BGSU rookies. Since a five-game goal drought, Falk has now tallied a netter in three-straight contests.
