Vandiver Named Assistant Men's Basketball Coach

Bowling Green, Ohio - Bowling Green State University men's basketball coach Dan Dakich has named Shaun Vandiver, a former first round NBA draft choice of the Golden State Warriors, as an assistant coach for the Falcons. He joins BGSU after spending one year as a graduate assistant at Wyoming and one year at his alma mater, Colorado, where he served as a volunteer assistant coach for the 2001-02 season, while he was completing his bachelor's degree in sociology.
"We're excited to have Shaun in our program and look forward to he and his family becoming members of the Bowling Green community," said Dakich.
Vandiver was an outstanding player at Colorado during his three-year stay with the Buffs. While at CU, Vandiver earned Big 8 Newcomer of the Year Honors his first season and was named first team All-Big 8 Conference for the 1989-90 and 1990-91 seasons. He played against the Wyoming Cowboys four times during his career at Colorado, winning two times and losing two times to the Cowboys. His senior season, he led the Buffs to the National Invitation Tournament finals in New York City, where they finished third He ranks No. 2 in CU school history in career rebounds (962) and No. 3 in career scoring (1,876). As a freshman in 1988, he helped lead Hutchinson Community College to the NJCAA National title.
He was the first round draft choice of the Golden State Warriors in the 1991 NBA Draft -- the No. 25 overall pick.
Vandiver went on to enjoy a nine-year professional playing career in Europe following college. He played for teams in Bologna, Italy (1991-92); Bilbao, Spain (1992-93); Girona, Spain (1993-94); Reggio Calabria, Italy (1994-95); Las Palmas, Spain (1995-97); and Madrid, Spain (1997-2001).
Vandiver, 35, a native of Bolingbrook, Ill., is married to the former Danielle Dodgion. They have four children -- Aubrey (15), Amber (11), Garin (9) and Alessandra (2).
