Bowling Green, Ohio - Collegefootballnews.com has picked the 2003 Bowling Green State University football team to win the MAC's West Division, then defeat Central Florida in the conference championship game.
BGSU was slated to finish first in its division followed by Northern Illinois, Toledo, Ball State, Western Michigan, Central Michigan and Eastern Michigan. On the East side, UCF is predicted to finish ahead of Miami, Marshall, Akron, Ohio, Kent State and Buffalo.
Senior quarterback Josh Harris was named the preseason Offensive Player of the Year, is ranked as the top quarterback in the league and is second among the top 30 players in the league regardless of position.
The website also named junior offensive lineman Scott Mruczkowski, sophomore defensive lineman Mitchell Crossley, and senior defensive back Janssen Patton to their preseason All-MAC squad along with Harris.
In other position rankings, Mruczkowski, Crossley, and Patton were ranked second among all league players at their respective positions. In addition, junior wide receiver James Hawkins is rated as the fourth best pass catcher in the league.
BGSU also will play in two of the five "Most Important Conference Games" of the year when it hosts Northern Illinois, October 25 (voted as the most important conference game of the year), and on November 4 when it travels to Miami (rated as the fifth most important game).
The official MAC Preseason Poll will be released next Tuesday at the annual MAC Media Day in Detroit.
