Brown Defeats Orange at 2nd Annual Falcon Face-Off, 3-2

Bowling Green, Ohio - The Bowling Green hockey team held its 2nd annual "Falcon Face-Off" on Saturday in front of several hundred fans at the BGSU Ice Arena. The Brown team registered a 3-2 overtime win over the Orange team in the traditional "Brown/Orange" game. A skills competition was held in between the two 25-minute periods with the White team recording a 2-to-1 edge in the three events.
Sophomore Brandon Piersol netted the game-winning goal at 1:24 of overtime to give the Brown team the win. Jim Tudor assisted on the goal. The only other goal scored in the game came off the stick of junior Ryan Minnabarriet (Brown team) at 8:35 of the first period. Mark Wires assisted on the goal.
The White team registered its two points in the skills competition held at the intermission. Freshman Jeremy Bronson won the "hardest slapshot" with a shot of 78 miles per hour. Junior Steve Brudzewski captured the "fastest skater" award with a win over senior Kevin Bieksa. The White team also won the "shootout" with the only goals coming from sophomore Bryan Dobek and freshman Dana Hanson.
BGSU plays an exhibition game next Friday, Oct. 3, at the BGSU Ice Arena against the University of Windsor. Face-off is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. The Falcons kick off the regular season on Oct. 10-11 with a two-game series at Northern Michigan.
