Ten Games Left For Falcons, Five at Home
Bowling Green hopes to use home ice to its advantage as the Falcons play five of their final 10 regular-season games at the BGSU Ice Arena, where the team is 5-5-3 this year. Next up for the Falcons is #15-ranked Ohio State this Saturday, January 31, at the Ice Arena (7:05 p.m.).
BGSU vs. #15 Ohio State
BGSU holds the all-time edge vs. the Buckeyes, 86-51-4, including 53-18-2 at home. The Falcons have dropped four in a row and seven of their last 10 against the Buckeyes, with the last BGSU victory coming Oct. 26, 2001, 5-3 in Bowling Green. However, BGSU is 4-2 in its last six home games vs. OSU.
Ohio State Buckeyes
OSU enters this weekend ranked 15th in the latest USCHO.com poll and 16th in the USA Today/America Hockey poll with a 15-12-0 overall record and 10-9-0 CCHA record. The Buckeyes are tied for fifth place with 20 points. OSU is coached by '79 BGSU alum John Markell who is 162-158-28 in nine years.
Half a Century Again for Sigalet
For the fifth time this season, and 13th time in his career, JR Jordan Sigalet turned back 40 or more shots in a game with his 50 saves on Friday, Jan. 23, at UAF. Sigalet broke the school record for saves in a game earlier this season when he stopped 56 shots at Notre Dame on Oct. 17 in a 5-3 win.
Huge Road Win for Falcons
BGSU recorded its first victory over UAF since Oct. 27, 2000 (0-4-3) with a 6-2 win at the Carlson Center on Jan. 23. BGSU had also not won in Fairbanks since Feb. 13, 1999 (0-3-1). The UAF loss was its first handed to them by a CCHA opponent this season (8-1-0) and snapped a nine-game home winning streak.
True Road Warriors Last Weekend
On one of the hardest road trips in the CCHA, BGSU notched just its second road win of the season with a 6-2 win at Alaska Fairbanks, and nearly pulled off the series sweep. The Falcons are 2-8-3 on the road with the only other win coming at Notre Dame on Oct. 17.
Falcons Going Head-to-Head with Big Boys
The Falcons recorded its third-consecutive weekend split against a top-six team in the CCHA. BGSU has split a weekend series with Notre Dame, Michigan State and Alaska Fairbanks over the past three weekends. BGSU has not been swept by a league team since the opening weekend of the year at Northern Michigan (Oct. 10-11).
