Lane, Jacobs Among NCAA Leaders

Bowling Green, Ohio - Junior B.J. Lane is third in the country in kickoff returns (33.63) and sophomore Omar Jacobs is second in the country in points responsible for (21.2) and total offense (334.3) in the latest NCAA statistical rankings. All three totals lead the Mid-American Conference.
Lane returned a kickoff 93 yards against Ball State which ties for the second longest kick return in school history. It also is the first conventional kickoff return for a TD since the 1997 season for the Falcons. Janssen Patton returned an onside kick against Temple 42 yards for a score in 2001.
Jacobs also ranks sixth in the country in pass efficiency (166.9) and second in the MAC in that category.
As a team, the Falcons are rated fourth in the country in scoring offense (41.5), sixth in passing (305.7), eighth in passing efficiency (165.2),and ninth in total offense (462.1). BGSU's scoring total is the highest in th MAC.
BGSU also leads the MAC in net punting (37.4) and is third in the league in turnover margin (.83), scoring defense (21.2), and pass efficiency defense (116.1).
With its second safety of the season and Lane's TD return, BGSU has scored 25 non-offensive points in six games this year after not scoring a single point on defense or via returns last season. Senior Keon Newson also blocked a punt which led directly to a BGSU TD in the first half against Ball State.
