B.J. Lane Earns MAC Player-of-the-Week Honors

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Bowling Green State University's B.J. Lane has been named a Mid-American Conference Player of the Week, the conference office has announced. Lane, a junior from Fort Washington, Md. (Friendly H.S.), earns the honor for the first time in his Falcon career.

Lane was named the MAC West Division Special Teams Player of the Week after returning a kickoff 93 yards in the Falcons' 51-13 win over Ball State Saturday (Oct. 16). That return ties Lane for the second-longest kick return in school history. It also is the first conventional kickoff return for a TD since the 1997 season for the Falcons (Janssen Patton returned an onside kick against Temple 42 yards for a score in 2001).
On the season, Lane currently ranks third in the country in kickoff returns, averaging 33.63 yards per return.
MAC PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
East Division
Offense - Josh Betts, Miami, quarterback
(Jr., Vandalia, Ohio)
Betts completed 25-of-36 pass attempts for 306 yards and two touchdowns as the RedHawks beat Buffalo 25-7. Betts led Miami's rally from a 7-6 halftime deficit by completing 15-of-21 attempts for 152 yards in the second half as the RedHawks outscored the Bulls 19-0. Betts broke the 300-yard barrier for the second time in his career while completing 69.4 percent of his attempts against the league's No. 2 rated pass defense.
Co-Defense - Kiki Gonzalez, Akron, defensive tackle

Gonzalez forced two fumbles and had two sacks as the Zips captured a 26-21 win at UCF to improve to 3-1 in MAC play. His first forced fumble came at midfield to stop UCF's opening drive. In the second quarter, Gonzalez posted sacks on consecutive plays and forced another fumble, forcing UCF to punt. The Zips raced to a 17-7 halftime margin en route to the win.
Co-Defense - James Evans, Buffalo, cornerback

Evans had 8 tackles, 2 pass break ups in the end zone, 2 sacks, and an interception vs. Miami in a 25-7 loss. The RedHawks went into the game as the top rated East Division team in scoring offense (32.8 ppg) and total offense. Both his interception and forced fumble came in UB territory and stopped potential Miami scoring drives.
Special Teams - Emanuel Spann, Marshall, kick returns
(Fr., Atlanta, Ga.)
Spann helped Marshall's field position in a close game with a punt return for 28 yards and a kickoff return for 24 yards in a 27-17 win at Kent State.

Offense - Brett Biggs, Akron, running back (had a career-high 30 carries for 150 yards and a touchdown in a 26-21 win at UCF); David Alston, Kent State running back (76 yards and a touchdown on 18 attempts and 4 kickoff returns for 72 yards vs. Marshall); Ahmad Bradshaw, running back, Marshall (3 receptions for 92 yards and a touchdown and a rushing score from one yard at Kent State);
Defense - Roger Attieh, Kent State, defensive line (8 tackles, a tackle for a loss and an interception vs. Marshall); Jamus Martin, Marshall, defensive end (2 sacks for minus 17 yards and 7 total tackles at Kent State); Derek Rehage, Miami, linebacker, (a team-high 9 tackles, 6 solo, and a sack at Buffalo).
Special Teams - Matthew Miller, Ohio, placekicker (7 punts for a 42.6 average with 3 downed inside the 20 at Toledo).
West Division
Offense - Garrett Wolfe, Northern Illinois, tailback
(So., Chicago, Ill.)
Wolfe rushed for a career-high 226 yards and four touchdowns in a 42-10 win over Central Michigan. In a span of 17:16 over the second and third quarters, Wolfe scored from 7, 27, 3 and 2 yards with three of the scores coming in the third frame for a 35-7 Huskies lead. Wolfe's 226 rushing yards is the most in a single game in the MAC this season. He also holds the No. 2 slot with 202 yards.
Defense - Kevin Harrison, Eastern Michigan, linebacker
(Sr., Belleville, Mich.)
Harrison was credited with 17 tackles, 6 of them solo, in a 35-31 win at Western Michigan. His forced a fumble with 1:07 remaining that allowed the EMU offense to score the winning touchdown. EMU was back-to-back road games for the first time since 1977.
Special Teams - B.J. Lane, Bowling Green, kickoff return

Lane scored on a 93-yard kickoff return vs. Ball State for the Falcons first conventional kickoff return for a score since 1997. Lane leads the nation in KOR with his 33 ypr average.

Offense - Omar Jacobs, Bowling Green, quarterback (19-of-25 passing for 279 yards and 4 touchdowns vs. Ball State); Eric Deslauriers, Eastern Michigan, wide receiver (8 receptions for 142 yards and two touchdowns in a 35-31 win at Westen Michigan; Lance Moore, Toledo, wide receiver (8 receptions for a season high 136 yards and a touchdown vs. Ohio); Greg Jennings, Western Michigan, wide receiver (a career-high 11 receptions for 142 yards and 2 touchdowns vs. Eastern Michigan).
Defense - Mike Thaler, Bowling Green, defensive line (10 tackles and 2 sacks for minus 10 yards vs. Ball State); Brian Atkinson, Northern Illinois, linebacker (10 tackles, 2 tackles for loses of 5 yards vs. CentraL Michigan); Patrick Body, Toledo, free safety (10 tackles, one for a loss and a froced fumble vs. Ohio); Ameer Ismail, Western Michigan, linebacker (a team-high 9 tackles, with three for a loss and one sack against Eastern Michigan).
Special Teams - Andrew Wellock, placekicker, Eastern Michigan (2 field goals from 23 yards, 3-3 PAT and 5 punts for a 33.0 average vs. Western Michigan); Brett Kern, Toledo, punter (averaged 47.0 ypk on 3 punts vs. Ohio).
