What began in 1964 as a grassroots effort to encourage area businesses and professionals to support BGSU athletics has expanded into a 1,400-member organization that annually raises more than $500,000.
"Chuck Perry and Coach Doyt Perry initially came up with the plan to create the Falcon Club knowing that private funds were needed to support athletics. The Falcon Club has prospered over the years and without this private support, BGSU's programs would not be as strong as they are today," says James E. Hof '50, BGSU vice president emeritus and charter Falcon Club member.
"The Falcon Club's main focus is to help the athletic department offset the escalating educational costs of our student-athletes. We're looking to expand our membership and assist even more students by appealing to former athletes, dedicated fans, alumni and friends who are passionate about supporting BGSU athletes and programs," says Cheryl (Cunningham) Windisch '71, chair of the 40th anniversary committee and President of the Falcon Club Advisory Board. Windisch's parents, the late Don '43 and Harriet '41 Cunningham, were charter members.
There are still 18 charter members who have continuously remained active in the Falcon Club and they were honored at the October 16 football game.
