BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University women's soccer team, having put together the first winning streak of the 2004 season, will face a pair of tough foes in an attempt to continue that streak this weekend ... the Falcons of head coach Andy Richards (3-8-1, 1-3-1 MAC) return to Cochrane Field for a pair of Mid-American Conference matches, beginning with a Friday (Oct. 8) match vs. Miami University ... that contest is scheduled for a 4:00 p.m. start ... then, the Brown and Orange will host Ball State University in a Sunday (Oct. 10) match, beginning at noon.
COPPES CONTINUES TO CONFOUND 'KEEPERS
Senior Kristy Coppes continues to go where no Falcon has gone before ... already the BGSU career scoring leader entering the 2004 season, she is moving up the MAC lists ... the Findlay native scored three goals in the Falcons' two wins over the weekend, with the first two goals in a 5-1 win at Cleveland State and the match-opening marker in a 3-0 win at Akron ... those three goals moved her BG career-best totals to 44 goals and 93 points ... she currently ranks sixth in MAC history in goals, and is only two goals shy of third place ... Coppes is seventh all-time among MAC players in points ... the lists follow ...

SEPTEMBER'S SCORING SLUMP IS OLD NEWS IN OCTOBER
The Falcons had difficulty finding the back of the net during the month of September, but have gotten off to a good scoring start in October ... after scoring a total of only four goals in September's eight matches, the Falcons have scored eight times in two October contests ... perhaps not coincidentally, BG is 2-0 in the month of October after going winless in September.
FIVE MORE THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT KRISTY COPPES
HEAD COACH ANDY RICHARDS
Andy Richards is in his fifth season as a collegiate head coach, all with the Falcons, and has an overall record of 40-48-9 ... Richards has led BGSU to the three finest seasons in school history over his first four years ... last fall, he guided the Falcons to the championship match of the MAC Tournament for the second time in his four seasons ... BGSU has advanced to the semifinals of the league tourney in three of his four campaigns to date ... Ashlee Orr is in her fifth season as an assistant coach for the Brown and Orange, while Eric Golz is in his first fall on Richards' staff.
SHINGLER'S SUNDAY SHUTOUT
The Falcons' 3-0 win at Akron Sunday (Oct. 3) was BGSU's first shutout victory of the year ... for redshirt junior Ali Shingler, it marked her fifth career complete-match shutout ... she ranks second on that BGSU list.
FRESHMEN FIND THE NET
The Falcons got a pair of goals from freshmen in Sunday's win, as both Gina Rossi and Tiernay Tilford found the back of the net at UA ... the last time BGSU got a pair of goals from frosh was on Nov. 1, 2002, when both Samantha Meister and Keeley Dayton scored in a 3-1 win over Wright State ... ironically, the Falcons' other goal in that match -- just as in Sunday's win -- was scored by Kristy Coppes, and was the match winner.
TUNING UP
As is the case with many BGSU teams, the women's soccer Falcons sing "Ay Ziggy Zoomba" after each win ... it had been quite a while since the team had gotten to sing, however ... Friday's (Oct. 1) CSU match marked BG's first win since the season opener on Aug. 27 ... Friday's victory snapped a nine-match winless streak for the Brown and Orange.

ROAD WARRIORS
The CSU-UA weekend marked the Falcons' first two road wins of the year ... BGSU is 2-4-0 on the road in 2004, including a 1-2-0 mark in MAC road contests ... since the beginning of the 2002 season, the Falcons have a record of 10-4-1 in MAC regular-season road matches.
THE OPPONENTS / THE SERIES
Miami will enter the weekend with an overall record of 6-4-1, and the RedHawks currently sit in a third-place tie in the MAC with a league mark of 4-1-1 ... last weekend, MU saw a four-match unbeaten streak snapped with a 1-0 loss to first-place Ohio, before rebounding for a 3-2, double-overtime victory over Marshall ... senior Ashley Swinehart, the reigning MAC Player of the Year, leads the team with eight goals and 18 points ... in goal, sophomore Megan Ortner and junior Leigh Terry have split time ... Terry leads the team with four wins, but Ortner has a team-low goals-against average of 1.22 and two shutouts ... Terry has a 1.90 GAA ... last year, the RedHawks finished 7-9-2 overall and 5-6-1 in league play ... MU was ninth in the conference, just missing the tournament after winning three-straight MAC Tournament titles from 2000-02 ... head coach Bobby Kramig is in his eighth year at the helm of the RedHawk women ... the school's athletics web site is www.MURedHawks.com.
Ball State is 6-2-4 overall, and the Cardinals will take a 2-2-4 MAC record into a Friday contest at Toledo ... BSU picked up a 1-0 win over Marshall before losing to OU by a 3-0 count last weekend ... the loss snapped a four-match unbeaten streak for the Cards ... BSU has scored only 13 goals in 12 matches, but the team has allowed just 10 goals ... senior Kate Nadalin leads a balanced scoring attack with eight points ... sophomore Alison Becker has played every minute in goal, and has 67 saves, a GAA of just 0.78 and six shutouts ... last year, BSU went 11-7-2 overall and finished fourth in the MAC with a 7-4-1 league mark under head coach Ron Rainey ... 16 letterwinners returned from that team ... the school's athletics web site is www.ballstatesports.com.
The Falcons trail Miami, 8-1-0, in the all-time series between the teams, but the one BGSU win came in the last meeting ... last fall in Oxford (Oct. 5, 2003), the Falcons rallied from a two-goal deficit for a 3-2 victory ... MU has won all three previous matches at Cochrane Field, including a 3-0 decision in the most recent meeting in BG (Sept. 20, 2002) ... BGSU and Ball State are tied, 2-2-1, in that series ... the Falcons won last year's meeting, by a 2-0 score in Muncie (Oct. 3, 2003) ... the teams have split the two prior meetings at Cochrane, with the Cards winning the most recent match, 2-1, two years ago (Sept. 22, 2002).
