MT. PLEASANT, Mich. - The Bowling Green State University football team picked up a 38-14 road win over Central Michigan University Saturday afternoon (Oct. 9) ... some quotes from the players and coaches ...
BOWLING GREEN
Head Coach Gregg Brandon
"We felt we could throw the ball on them and we did. We did a nice job keeping them off balance. I really didn't think that was a close game."
On Omar Jacobs: "Omar's doing a really nice job directing this offense. Everybody wants Omar to be (former BGSU quarterback) Josh Harris. I think he's playing better than Harris. We have put a lot of the offense on him and he has responded."
On Steve Sanders: "His touchdowns were a result of the play called. Steve just happened to be open."
On the defense: "There's only one stat that matters: scoring defense. We kept them out of the end zone and that's what matters."
On Central Michigan: "It had a young secondary and we felt we could protect with our offensive line. We have a good passing attack and I think we can pass the ball the rest of the way... I like (CMU coach) Brian Kelly. I think he's a good guy. We had him at our camp to speak a couple of times and I think he did a real nice job at Grand Valley. He changed things up today and kept us off balance."
Wide Receiver Steve Sanders
"We have set plays and Omar just looks and sees what's open. Omar's gonna get the ball to whoever is open and make his reads. We have a lot of guys who can make plays."
Quarterback Omar Jacobs
"They (CMU) did a lot of things that could've given us problems. We went to the film and executed the game plan."
On Sanders: "I have confidence in all of my receivers. Steve had two great games in a row and is just one of a number of great receivers."
Linebacker Jovon Burkes
On Jerry Seymour: "He's an excellent little back. We knew we had to get them off their rhythm on first downs."
"We have to practice even more on gang-tackling. We preach on how we might break but we won't bend and that's what we did today."
CENTRAL MICHIGAN
Running Back Jerry Seymour
On recovering from his injury: "I'm 100 percent (healthy). That wasn't even in a factor (in today's game)."
Regarding not getting into the endzone: "I'm a team player. I'll carry the ball 40 times and it doesn't matter if I get in the endzone.
"We missed a couple of key plays in the first quarter and missed our execution."
Head Coach Brian Kelly
"Bowling Green is an outstanding football team. We needed to play a perfect game in order to win."
On team mistakes: "We had two communication errors by our center and one by our quarterback in the first quarter."
On the defense: "We were shoddy in tackling, and we didn't make the play. We need to make those plays against a good football team."
On Bowling Green's offense: "It had great balance. It has no weaknesses on the offensive side of the ball."
On Kent Smith and 4th Downs: "We're going to get the ball in Kent's hands on fourth down."
On the quarterbacks: "They're giving it everything they have. They're not superstars yet. We fought as hard as we could."
On the CMU secondary: "I'm disappointed (about the secondary). (However) they're moving in the right direction and getting better each week."
