BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University volleyball team ended their 2004 season with a 3-0 loss to Marshall in the quarterfinals of the Mid-American Conference Tournament Friday afternoon inside Anderson Arena. Taylor Twite led the Falcons with 18 kills in the loss.
Marshall used a 4-0 spurt to take an early 12-8 lead early on game one, but kills by Taylor Twite combined with two Herd errors knotted the score back at 12-12. Marshall once again regained a substantial lead at 20-17 following a kill by Christin Bimberg. MU maintained that same three-point lead at 27-24 before a kill by Melissa Mohr and a Herd error got the Falcons within one, 27-26. Game two was nip-and-tuck throughout with 15 different tie scores as well as 11 lead changes. Marshall posted their largest lead of game two at 24-21 following a kill by Stephanie Cahill. BGSU stormed back with a run of their own recording four straight points with the help of three Marshall attack errors to take a 25-24 advantage. But the Herd would not be stopped. They finished on a 6-3 run to capture game two, 30-28.
The Marshall offense seemed to be in complete control of game three, racing out to a 17-11 advantage, and looked to be cruising home with a 3-0 sweep over the Falcons. Bowling Green would not go down without a fight. A 6-0 run got BGSU to within one at 18-17, and continued the run to take a three-point lead at 23-20. The game of runs continued as Marshall used a 9-4 run to gain a 29-27 lead, but kills by Mohr and Maggie Karges gave BGSU a 30-29 advantage. Bowling Green maintained that one-point lead at 32-31, but a 3-0 run to close out game three gave Marshall a 3-0 sweep over the Falcons, 34-32.
For the match Twite led the Falcons with 18 kills and finishes her career with 960 kills. Mohr (9), Karges (7) and Nofzinger (6) also helped offensively.
