FORT WAYNE, Ind. -
BGSU HEAD COACH Curt Miller
"Sometimes, win number one is the hardest to get. We got that tonight, and it feels good.
"I admire the IPFW coaching staff for implementing this system in the offseason. It is a tough system to play against; they keep you from running your offense, and press you all over the court for the entire 40 minutes. You have to be able to handle the ball and try not to have too many turnovers. If you turn it over, they will score easy points. If you can handle their pressure and break their press, it can lead to some layups and easy points at the other end. We weren't perfect, but for the most part, we handled their pressure."
(On sophomore Ali Mann, who was held in single digits in scoring)
"Ali sacrificed for the betterment of the team tonight. Ali had to take the ball inbounds, as a bigger kid that could handle their trap. So, when we broke their press, Ali wasn't down in the scoring areas very much. But, a lot of our success was because of her handling their press and making good decisions in the backcourt."
"Our depth impressed me tonight. I was concerned about this game, because we have had some nagging injuries, and I knew it would be an up-and-down type of game. To their credit, our team really proved to me that we do have depth and that they could play through those injuries."
(On the freshmen)
"I'm ecstatic about our freshman class. I am hard on them every day in practice, and Kate (Achter) and Whitney (Taylor) know that I am on them every day to make them better. But, they are warriors. They play very hard, and they are competitors. They also are fearless, and Kate and Whitney are not at all overwhelmed by this opportunity."
