TOLEDO, Ohio -
The Bowling Green State University football Falcons suffered a 49-41 loss at the University of Toledo Tuesday night (Nov. 23). The Rockets overcame a 20-point halftime deficit for the win. Some notes and numbers from the game ...
The home team has won the last seven series meetings.
The Falcons finish the regular season with an overall record of 8-3 ... that ties BGSU with Miami, Northern Illinois and the Rockets for the best overall mark among Mid-American Conference teams.
Bowling Green's 8-3 record gives the Falcons the best record among all at-large, bowl-eligible teams in the country.
BGSU now leads the all-time series with Toledo, 36-29-4.
Redshirt sophomore Omar Jacobs threw for a career-high 415 yards in the game ... Jacobs completed 36 passes in 60 attempts, setting career bests in both of those categories as well.
Jacobs' total of 60 passes set a BGSU single-game record ... the old record of 59 was set by Brian McClure in the 1983 Toledo game ... Jacobs' 36 completions fell two shy of that school mark, set by Josh Harris in last year's Motor City Bowl vs. Northwestern.
Jacobs threw for four touchdowns in the game ... he has had at least four TD tosses in seven games this year, including in each of the last three ... Jacobs, who entered the game as the nation's leader in touchdown passes, now has a school-record 36 TD throws this season.
Senior placekicker Shaun Suisham set one record, tied another and extended yet another in the game ... he kicked five extra points in the contest, breaking the NCAA career mark in that category ... Suisham now has 219 successful PATs as a Falcon, breaking the record set by Nebraska's Kris Brown (217 from 1995-98).
Suisham hit a 34-yard field goal with 9:58 left in the second quarter, his second three-pointer of the night and the 44th of his career ... he is tied for the career field-goal record at BGSU, matching the mark originally set by Gehad Youssef and matched by Brian Leaver.
Suisham extended his MAC record for consecutive PAT kicks to 62 ... the old record for successful point-after tries in a season was 53, set by Miami's John Scott in 1997.
BGSU led 17-7 after the first quarter ... through the 11-game regular season, the Falcons have outscored the opponents by a 163-27 count ... the Falcons have not been outscored in the opening quarter this season (BGSU and Oklahoma were tied, 7-7, after the first quarter of the season opener).
At halftime, the Falcons held a 27-7 lead ... BGSU has outscored opponents by a 302-99 margin in the first half this season.
Jacobs threw a 34-yard touchdown pass to senior Cole Magner with 1:36 gone in the game ... that catch was Magner's sixth scoring grab of the season and the 18th of his Falcon career.
On the ensuing kickoff return by the Rockets, BGSU's Mike Crumpler forced a Steve Odom fumble, and Daniel Sayles made the recovery ... Crumpler led the Falcons with a total of 11 tackles on the night.
Two plays later, junior P.J. Pope scored on a one-yard run ... that was Pope's 13th rushing TD of the season and the 27th of his career ... he has now had at least one TD on the ground in each of the last eight games.
Those two BGSU scores came within a 32-second span.
Early in the second quarter, Jacobs threw a touchdown pass to Charles Sharon ... Sharon's TD catch was his 13th of the season, extending his own school record in that category . . . he now has 25 career scoring receptions, just two shy of the record held by Ronnie Redd (1991-94).
Senior Keon Newson intercepted a Bruce Gradkowski pass with 7:59 left before the half ... the pick was Newson's team-leading fifth of the season and the ninth of his career ... Newson, who now has four interceptions in the last three games, is the Falcons' active career leader.
Pope had a pair of touchdown catches in the fourth quarter, and had the first 100-yard receiving game of his career ... Pope caught a team-high 10 balls for 104 yards ... he now has a total of 33 touchdowns in his career, the fourth-most in school history.
The two-TD game receiving game was the first of Pope's career.
Magner had nine receptions for a team-high 113 yards and a score ... the 100-yard receiving game was his second this season and the sixth of his BG career.
Late in the first half, Jelani Jordan picked off a Bruce Gradkowski pass at the goal line ... Newson and T.J. Carswell pressured the UT quarterback on the play ... Jordan's INT was his second of the year and the fourth of his career ... the Falcons now have 13 interceptions on the season, including eight in the last three games.
The attendance was listed as 31,981, the seventh-largest crowd in the history of the Glass Bowl.
