Ten Falcons named All-MAC

Cleveland, Ohio - The 2004 All-Mid-American Conference football team, as voted on by the league's 14 head coaches, was announced today and 10 members of the BGSU football team were honored with those accolades.
Senior linebacker Jovon Burkes (team-high 80 tackles) and senior strong safety Keon Newson (66 tackles, 5 interceptions) received first-team honors on the defensive side of the ball. Sophomore quarterback Omar Jacobs (3,637 yards, national-high 36 TDs) and junior left tackle Rob Warren were first-team honorees on offense.
Two first-team picks in 2003 were voted second-team this season including senior center Scott Mruczkowski and junior running back P.J. Pope (1,439 all-purpose yards). Freshman left guard Kory Lichtensteiger also earned second-team honors as did junior defensive end Mitchell Crossley (37 tackles, 2.5 sacks), a second-team pick in 2003, and senior kicker Shaun Suisham (MAC record 62 PATs) also was named second-team.
Senior linebacker Daniel Sayles (59 tackles) also was named honorable mention.
MAC West Division co-champion Northern Illinois led all schools with 12 selections to the 60-member squad. BGSU had 10 honorees and East Division champ Miami had eight while Toledo had five players named to the team. The complete list follows.
The MAC Specialty Awards will be announced tomorrow. Those awards include the Vern Smith Leadership Award, Coach of the Year, Offensive Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, Special Teams Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year.
