Falcons Close To Top 25 Recognition

Bowling Green,Ohio - The BGSU football team, 7-2 and 5-1 in the MAC, inched closer to a top 25 ranking in a major poll for the third straight year and is ranked 26th in the latest ESPN/USA Today Coaches poll.
The Falcons received 70 votes and are 42 points behind #25 Texas Tech, 6-3, who has 112 points. BGSU also received four votes this week in the AP poll.
Four coaches who vote on the coaches poll have played BGSU this season including Oklahoma's Bob Stoops, Western Michigan's Gary Darnell, Northern Illinois' Joe Novak, and Ball State's Brady Hoke. Marshall's Bob Pruett also has a vote and will see the Falcons first-hand this Saturday, when BGSU and the Thundering Herd battle at Perry Stadium at noon. BGSU's Gregg Brandon also is a member of the voting panel.
Team Rankings
BGSU leads the MAC in seven categories and is ranked nationally in those as well. BGSU is third in passing offense (320.9), fourth in scoring (42.4) and pass efficiency (167.6), sixth in total offense (491.2) and turnover margin (+1.22), 15th in punt returns (14.0), and 17th in pass efficiency defense (106.14). BGSU and Ball State lead the nation in fewest turnovers committed with five, and BGSU is second in the MAC and 21st nationally in scoring defense (18.11).
Sophomore Omar Jacobs leads the nation with a school-record tying 27 TD passes, is second in total offense (340.9), passing yards (314.4) and points responsible for (20.67), and is fourth in pass efficiency (170.1) and pass completions (24.5). He is the MAC leader in all of the above.
